Anyone else love the catsuits?

Didn't Jeri Ryan say there was a corset under her catsuit? Or was it just that she kept herself really thin all the time?

Apparently she did wear a corset all the time (though she no doubt has a lovely figure even without the stupid corset) - I haven't read this myself, but another regular who is a BIG Jeri Ryan fan and who knows every detail of her costume told me this was true, and I have no reason to doubt her.

Nope, no illusions shattered. I like corsets too. And high heels, for the reasons you outlined.

Um, Badger...they aren't that kind of corset. There are pretty corsets and there are corsets designed to do a hard day's work, and the Trek women were wearing the second kind, I am sure. A serious corset (I've never worn one but I've seen them- I may wear high heels, but I'm not that insane) is about as seductive as a truss.

Just a by the way...

Never when I started to post here on the Trek BBS did I dream I would advise fellow Trek fans on corsets and high heels. Who knew? ;)

That's true. I'm actually a pimply 19-year-old guy who lives in my parents' basement and has seen lingerie only when I "borrow" my mom's Victoria's Secret catalog, but the miracle of the Internet allows me to pretend to be an adult woman of the world.

You can research anything on the Internet! Anything! It's amazing!

You're determined to ruin my illusions aren't you?

I find the over-use of catsuits in Star Trek cheap.

Star trek is supposed to attract viewers by using good stories and good characters, not the "sex factor".

Catsuits and high heels on a spaceship is ridiculous.

But hasn't Star Trek been using the "sex factor" since TOS in the 60's? As I recall the women on that show wore skimpy outfits, too. Maybe the newer series are just following tradition.

Seven of Nine's corset.

Jeri is thin, but her ribs don't look like the catsuit. She's not that thin.

Nor is her ribcage deformed.

^ ^ The casting couch was also a "tradition" in the 1960s. Not all traditions are good things.

If they want to show crewmembers wearing sexy stuff off-duty, I think that would be fine - in fact, one of the small things about Trek that annoys me is how booooooorrrrring the off-duty clothes are. I just really hate it that they have them wear that stuff when they are supposed to be professional working people.

Miniskirts were highest fashion in the 60's which may have been a reason that they were used in TOS.

But the catsuits in the series from the 90's-2000's seem more like some Braga obsession and a stunt to attract viewers.

If you want to know why I wear high heels (sometimes), it's because...well, because they're pretty. ;) Pretty much the same reason I wear lipstick and earrings, really.

I don't know what to believe anymore, but if both quotes are true then you must be an...interesting...person. ;)

^ One is false, and one is true. In one of them, I just sacrificed truth for the sake of humor. Why? Because I have my priorities straight, that's why.

Who is that Vulcan justkate? I forget which episode she is in or who she is in fact, just can't remember her.

^ ^ She is Dr. Selar. As far as I know, she only appeared on one TNG episode ("The Schizoid Man"), but her name pops up on lots of episodes. She is played by the fabulous Susie Plakson, who also played K'Ehleyr and Lady Q.

The cool-a-rama Vulcan eyebrow is courtesy of the equally fabulous Praetor.

No, they were for sex appeal. GR liked seeing what he could scoot past the censors of the time, which is why a lot of the costumes covered basically only the parts specified in the old codes they used back then.

T'Pol probably was his idea, along with stuffing Jolene Blalock's chest to make her look bustier. Originally Seven was supposed to retain much more of her Borg appearance, but the studio nixed that and insisted they use her to drag in the horny teen-aged male demographic they thought made up the fandom.
