I know I'm in the minority here, but I think P2 was the better movie!(In a B-movie monster type of way!:p)

Predator is the better-crafted movie, Predator 2 is the more fun.

AVP is OK, does what it says on the tin. AVPR I haven't seen yet.

Predator 1 is actually a really good movie - so that one.

I don't hate to watch Predator 2, but it feels like a straight-to-video, even though it wasn't, and what was up with setting it in the "oh-so-futuristic" 1997 when it came out in 1990? To me that shows a staggering lack of faith that your film will stand the test of time.

The two AVP movies are colossal missed opportunities on just about every level.

I like them both but I think I like the first one better. I like how 80's macho the male characters are in the movie. The scene were Arnold and Carl Weathers shake hands and you see there huge biceps is got to be the most manly scene in the history of all movies that have ever exsited. I always find kind that type of stuff to be both cool but funny as well in a corny type of way.

I also enjoyed Predator 2 the most - it took itself less seriously than the first and was a helluva lot of fun. I also didn't hate the AvP movies as much as most people did, although I would have much preferred it if they had stuck to the source material - the AvP comics were outstanding, but the movies have little to no resemblance to them.

I like the 2nd one a lot more than I did when it first came out... but it still can't hold a candle to the first movie. The futuristic LA is laughable and horribly dated, and the idea of the Predator hunting in the city doesn't feel inspired at all.

As cool as the ending is, it's not enough to make the movie as a whole work.

That's the way I feel! Don't get me wrong, I think P1 is a work of art, but P2 is just WAAYYYY to much FUUUN!:techman:

It's a bit like comparing Jaws or Robocop to the other films in those franchises. Predator is an action classic, Predator 2 is pretty good but not quite in the same league and the less said about the AVP films the better.

I prefer the second film, but I know I'm in the minority on that opinion. I don't think Predator is anywhere near the league of either Alien or Aliens, and find it to be a bit of a shame that the awful AVP films have lumped both franchises together.

I like both 1 and 2. I think that one was a good introduction to the species and a nice contained story. I think two was a nice expansion on the species and a fleshing out of the world at that time, but got hurt by having a lot of material cut from it to get an R rating. I mean it got re cut over 20 times to not get the dreaded NC-17 rating, and I think that that lost material hurt the film a little.

I think that the first AVP movie suffered from not feeling like it belonged to either series. AVPR helped to fix some of that but still didn't grab enough of the feel of the parent franchises (P1, P2, A1, A2) to fix the avp franchise's problem.

No contest. PREDATOR!

It has:

Jesse Ventura: "It'll make you a goddamned sexual Tyrannosaurus, just like me!"

This exchange:

"Bullshit! You ain't afraid of no man!"
"There's somethin' out there...and it ain't no man."

Ah-nold calling the alien out with a primal scream.

And of course, the aforementioned: "GO! Get to de chahppah!"

Predator two was entertaining but ended corny. Same with AVP.

AVPR was just convoluted shit. I'm not saying the other movies weren't convoluted. They just weren't shit.

AvP was *offensively bad*, and I didn't see AvP2 yet.

Predator 1 is just a complete classic setup, Arnie, and a sort of Planet of the Apes vibe

I voted Predator 2 because I simply do not see why it doesn't get as much love; it's not in the jungle and there's no arnie, but where Predator had raw machismo, Predator 2 had actual characterization and plot; Danny Glover was really cool as the LA supercop, plus the special effects had gotten better; combi-spear, smartdisk, and netgun, etc.

Plus the whole actual buildup of the Predators as characters; I mean Predator 1 the whole point was you didn't really see him until the end. Predator 2, not only do you see him, but Glover gets in a 1 on 1 blade to blade fight with him and WINS....and the other Predators on the ship let him simply leave, because he honorably won a duel in a fair fight, even giving him a trophy.

I like that; it built up the Predators as not just mindless sadistic killing machines, but this alien culture that just puts great societal (possibly religious/spiritual) emphasis on hunting, and because humans are sentient and can match wits against them, they make for really challenging prey. But they follow the hunter's code; they won't kill an unarmed target.

So really...the setup of Predator 1 is just CLASSIC: Jungle, alien hunter, spec ops commandos. the jungle ITSELF was almost a character.

But Predator 2 had better characterization for both humans AND Predators, with better special effects and....better fight scenes? Well, not "better" than the final Arnie vs Predator, but at least equal, and there were MORE of them because the final fight was so drawn out.

So....I'm going to have to say "Predator 2", because like Aliens 2, I think its the rare sequel that "improved on the original"....of course, by not TRYING to be simply a retread of the original, but taking one idea from the original, and rounding it out in a new direction.

This is a tough call... I really like both Predator and Predator 2. I think I might like them equally, in different ways. The first is probably a better-constructed film, but the second, as has been mentioned, is a lot of fun. And I am glad that it wasn't a simple retread of the first one. So I'm going to say it's a tie (don't know how I'd do that in the poll, however ;)).

As for the AvP films, they really come across as direct-to-video B-movies with unusually high budgets that somehow got released in theatres. Taken as that, they're a bit more palatable... occasionally entertaining at best. They definitely can't hold a candle to any of the other Alien or Predator films, however (with the possible exception of Resurrection -- god, what a disappointment that was).

SomethingAwful has an entirely different (and amusing) take on that scene. ;)

Blue Stripe - The Life And Times Of A Predator Blacksmith

Let's see... big squad of invincible ultra macho steroid freak commando strike team versus Danny Glover an old cop... I think I'll go with number one ;) I just found every single thing about 2 to be inferior to the original. It's still alright, though.

For me, it's easily "Predator". While not my favorite Arnie flick, it's still a lot of fun and has some really great moments. And the final battle with the beast is pretty suspenseful and well realized, I thought.

"Predator 2" doesn't do anything for me. I totally do not buy Glover in the part they've handed him here. Plain and simply speaking, I think this was a case of miscasting. He's just not that type of action here IMHO.

Also, while I actually enjoyed some of the mindless banter in part one, I felt it was simply annoying and grinding here. Oh, and the Paxton's character just really gets on my nerves.

Having said all that, I do like the basic idea of moving the hunt into the big city 'jungle'. I just think they could have done a better job with it.

Yooo ukleee muthuh fukahh.

Predator easily. I've seen the rest and they made no impression at all. I barely remember AVPR which I saw last year.

P2 is a over-indulgent mess. The original was superior. I don't even count the AVP films in that continuity.

AvP was *offensively bad*, and I didn't see AvP2 yet.

I switched it off half way through. Nothing that happened was even visible enough to deem it offensively bad, just lots of fast edits and poor lighting to disguise the fact that they have gone back to men in bad rubber suits.
