I dont really see the harm in it. After all, as mentioned up thread Japan has a lower crime rate than the United States and yet they dont go out of their way to hide this stuff. It leads me to think that many of the social problems in America stem from other issuesWorking in a bookstore, I find it slightly disturbing that this sort of stuff is out on the shelves. I don't see a ton of Vertigo, or any of the hard comic books sold at Bookstores but the stuff that is sold in Manga is very, very borderline. And I see very young girls and guys reading this stuff.
Which indeed shows that the social issues are coming from elsewhere. If reading violent manga caused people to go out and commit crimes, it is something that would be happening on both sides of the oceanI dont really see the harm in it. The funny thing is, most of the 'hard' comics are now not being sold by comic book stores. I have found one that sells the Max Titles but usually stores won't carry those. They don't carry a ton of Vertigo titles or other comics.
Japan is also a totally different type of society than the United States and is a totally different culture. It's like comparing apples with oranges.
I just don't see it. My entire life no one went around hiding violent movies and the like from me and I turned out fine. If anything, I'd say people are using TV and movies as a scape goat for the real issue- shitty parenting. But the stuff they throw in some of the manga is very - well it's not good for kids around 10-12 to be reading and even younger.
I know at borders at least, they do have a mature audiences section for the manga. I was actually carded once which got aNot shitty parenting, but some parents simply don't know or can't keep up with their kids. Some of these manga books should be in the adult section of the store.
And excuse me, bookstores not comic book stores.

With disclaimers and a waiver to be signed.Yes -- plastic wrap...a solution to keeping kids out of books.
I cannot tell you how many times I have seen the plastic wrap torn from a ''ADULT'' manga at bookstores!

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...r-handley-pleads-guilty-to-possession-charges looks like they got this guy for the transporting of ''illegal'' goods across state lines, but not on the pedi-manga.Do they allow PORN?Can you get manga in prison?![]()
if they allow porn then Manga should be no trouble at all.
