Court case revolving around ''MANGA''!

They don't have the same standards, which can either be good or bad depending on the work. Good in that you can get really excellent and thought provoking, mind and moral-bending profound works of greatness that bring up sensitive issues nobody here would touch with a ten foot pole. Bad in that you also get absolute garbage sometimes.

Its true. Also, like any genre, the same theme can be handled well or sickly. The middle-schooler betrayed by her older crush in hentai can be a sweet thing in say, Love Hina, which knows enough to keep it as a crush, though unrequited and involving a frying pan symbolizing that girl's growth.

Limit one side, stifle the other... that's the problem with censorship

Oy! I pitty future generations.:( Question? What the HELL is with JAPAN?!:wtf: is every nation this bad? ''or'' are some are just better at hideing this....STUFF!?

Different philosophy. The Japanese put all their dirty laundry in the media for people to get off to. They also have one of the lowest actual crime rates in the world.

Americans censor the hell out of their media so no one gets any crazy ideas--and that's why we don't have any violent crime.

Hentai characters need to be over 18 now, how does that work? Do artists have to draw them a drivers license.

Indeed...

That made me go :wtf:

US has the highest crime rate of any country, which is a scary thing really.

Given the context I'm guessing it was sarcasm.

When they're released here the companies have to include a disclaimer that says that it's a work of fiction and that none of the characters depicted are minors (under the age of 18). Sometimes you can tell it's just a formality and utter BS so they don't get sued because the characters don't look it.

Actually, the US is 8th. Dominica, New Zealand, Finland, Denmark, Chile, the United Kingdom, and Montserrat are 1-7, respectively. Japan is 34th.

To be fair, animanga drawing techniques always seem to pull 5 years off a character's intended age. That was one of the things that creeped me out about Narutaru. These were supposed to be junior high kids, but they looked like my 9-year old nieces and nephews. What really gets creepy is when the artists fully intend that the character is 13 or so. Not only was one revolting H-piece exactly that, but one of the targeted girls looked like an anime Cindy Brady! This ramped up the blech factor from 12 out of 10 to about 36. I kind of found a fondness for the 'lucky fool' pieces, but sometimes would check out the worst just to see if the laughing asshole finally got made a eunuch or something. Didn't happen all that often, so like quest-driven shows that you know will never be resolved, I turned away entirely. It was a decision I've never regretted. I hate arguing for prior censorship, but these pieces need a line somewhere.

It is a matter of taste. Plenty of people have rape fantasies, some of giving, some of receiving, and some of both. That isn't saying that there are plenty of people who want to be raped, nor that there are plenty who want to commit rape, for the vast majority of both it is just a fantasy, one that they'd never want in reality. There isn't any point in denying these people their porn, even if you don't like it.

I never would, and I'm not proposing it now. The prior censorship I spoke of was the self-imposed kind, the kind that has the artist maybe going once in a while - 'Okay..maybe not that..' but no laws. As I and others have said, the most offensive thing in these is mostly how stupid the characters are in some--while others are somewhat thought through. You raise a fair point. After reading your post I thought about a lot of 80's teen movie voyeur scenes, cool as fantasy but things I would never want to do or see done to a woman I knew. Sorry to get all preachy without due consideration.

For me, it was worth it just for the 'surviving H' list, to which I'll add :

27 - (I think) If you are a 'legit' anime character, and you see a google result that appears to be you and another character from your series, DO NOT scrutinize it. If you have an opposite-sex sibling, this goes double, ten times if that sibling is younger, one hundred times if you are a tsundere, and nine thousand times if you have any sort of pet creature around. Suffice it to say, you'll see a side to yourself you prolly never wanted to see. I offer special warnings to Asuka Langley, Naru Narusezgawa, and Prince Vegeta.

Vegeta : Odd. In this picture, Kakarott seems to have me some kind of odd wrestling lock...YAAAAAAAGGHHHH!!!! Bulmaaaaa!!!

Bulma : Errr..found them, huh?

Given the Sayian's Spartan-ish warrior culture, I'm not sure that Vegeta wouldn't be into the idea.

Working in a bookstore, I find it slightly disturbing that this sort of stuff is out on the shelves. I don't see a ton of Vertigo, or any of the hard comic books sold at Bookstores but the stuff that is sold in Manga is very, very borderline. And I see very young girls and guys reading this stuff.

I dont really see the harm in it. After all, as mentioned up thread Japan has a lower crime rate than the United States and yet they dont go out of their way to hide this stuff. It leads me to think that many of the social problems in America stem from other issues
