Did you go to the party afterwards? And if so was it fun?
Did the movie get a standing ovation in screen one?
I saw the movie in screen two and didn´t know that they screened in three and four as well. Cool. The interest in the movie was huge![]()

When Pike is given the first command of the Enterprise, is it in "our" timeline before Nero destroys the Kelvin, or after in the alt universe?

I'm glad you had a good time (and great av, if I didn't say so elsewhere) but this really belongs in the pinned spoiler discussion thread, so moving there now...Well, I have a very tall tale to tell...
<snip>
Actually, they just wanted to make sure we shut them down. Some of my friends kept their phonesWhaat, you got to keep your phones! At the Belgian premiere they were confiscated at the door.
So, after Spocks personal log, he heads to the Turbolift where Uhura gets in with him and puts it on hold. Its at this point the audience is shown that Spock and Uhura are in a relationship together. Uhura tries to get Spock to open up about losing his homeworld but he just shuts her out and tells her he needs the crew to be at their best.
I BELIEVE its around this point that Kirk makes a move for Captain but Spock shuts him out, they have a fight and Spock jettisons Kirk on Delta Vega (or the moon of Vulcan). I feel the need to mention the escape pod came OUT the neck of the ship from the place I thought was a docking port. Kinda weird place for a pod as its the thinnest part of the ship but oh well
Kirk blacks out and comes too on Delta Vega, he gets out the pod and his Tricorder tells him theres a Federation outpost 14km to the Northwest (even though Majel Roddenberry does voice the computer in the film, im sure there are several different voices too. Whether they were added after Majels passing or not, I dont know). Kirk heads out in a very Undiscovered Country Rutha Pente vista shot walking across the ice when he finds himself in a snowstorm being chased by a polar bear from hell. Just as the bear is about to get him, another giant Red Monster thing (which looks an AWFUL lot like a mini Cloverfield Monster, just red) eats the bear and then comes down on Kirk. Kirk slides down an ice cliff into a cave as the monster falls down the cliff and follows him, once in the cave the monster is led off by a man from the cave. Spock. Old Spock.
I have to mention here, if you remember Star Wars when we first saw Ben Kenobi shooing off the Sand people in A New Hope. This is that scene just with Nimoy Spock and Young Kirk. Spock fills in the details of whats happened with Nero via a Mind Meld Montage which fills in why Nero came after him and left him there (turns out he left him on Delta Vega because it had a fairly clear view of Vulcan so Spock could watch it be destroyed). After the MMM Kirk is dazed and confused by it all and asks what happens next. Spock asks if Kirk is the Captain of the Enterprise which he is not. This leads Spock to surmize that Nero has altered the timeline earlier than he previously thought (Just to make clear now, Nero appeared in front of the USS Kelvin on the Day Kirk was born. Spock appeared 20ish years later and was greeted by a Nero who had spent that time learning when and where the anomaly would drop Spock off so he could make him suffer.) and that he must tip Spocks emotional balance to get him to relieve himself of command. They both leave the cave and head to the outpost where we are greeted by a short alien called Keenser. He takes us to a sleeping Scotty. Now, everyone says Simon Pegg steals every scene he is in. I would have to agree with them, he is very much the comic relief but at the same time is a very smart man who does save the day (think Rodney McKay only less arrogant). I say this because a few reviews I have seen make Scotty out to be the barrell of laughs, and while he is, it isnt fair to ignore his acheivements in helping the good guys win. It is while here we get a nod to Enterprise (Scotty was sent here as punishment for losing Admiral Archers Beagle in a transporter accident) which I apprecieated. Spock gives Scotty his own formula for Transwarp beaming, after which Scotty exclaims "AHA! I'd 'ave neva thought of space being the thing thats moovin'" I should also point out that Scotty clearly states he could beam someone across the system if need be.
Scotty and Kirk beam back to the Enterprise which is now on its way to regroup with the rest of the Federation fleet. Kirk rematerializes safely in an Engineering room whereas Scotty beams into the water pipes. This is pretty much the most "childish" bit of the film, but in context it does work and they dont spend alot of time dwelling on it (Unlike every time Jar Jar binks used his tongue to get in trouble....*shudders*). Chekov mentions that there is an intruder alert and Spock orders a security detail to catch them. Its at this point Kirk meets "cupcake" again from the Trailers.
They are brought to the bridge in the clip that was released a while back. After which Kirk causes an emotional imbalance in Spock which causes him to lash out and almost Kill kirk. Kirk mentions the protocol that Spock told him earlier (something about Officers with an emotional investment in the mission at hand should not be allowed to command if their feelings cloud their judgement) and Spock relieves himself of command leaving kirk to take the big chair. He orders the Enterprise to Earth (which I forgot to mention Nero was heading too :s Sorry) and they come up with a plan to hide the Enterprise so that the Narada cant blast them out of the sky when they drop out of warp. Chekov comes up with the plan to warp behind Saturns moon Titan and beam aboard the Narada before they can get a chance to activate the drill. The ship comes out of Warp right into titans upper atmosphere (filled with dust in the movie, not sure if thats scientifically accurate or not) which leads to a Beautiful shot of the Enterprise rising out of the smoke with Saturn behind it.
At this point, Kirk and Spock head to the transporter room to beam to the Narada. Scotty mentions "if they had any sense when they designed that ship i should be putting you in their cargo bay, not a soul in sight." Of course, he ends up putting them right in the middle of the shuttle deck thingy which is filled with Romulans.
Nero then fires the drill at Earth. Preventing beamout.
This leads to a frantic (and I mean, FRANTIC) Phaser fight with Kirk and Spock shooting down Romulans left right and center. I should point out the phasers look much better in the film (and the twisty barrell thing when going from Stun to Kill is a nice touch) than the toy version does. At this point Spock and Kirk discover the Jellyfish (Spocks time ship) and Spock takes control of it to create a diversion for Kirk to rescue Captain Pike (who is still being held captive).
The Jellyfish shoots around the Narada's insides and then bursts through the hull and then shoots the drill thats attacking earth, destroying it. Its at this point Nero screams "FIRE EVERYTHING!" from the trailer. Before any of the torpedoes find theyre mark, the Jellyfish jumps to warp and the Narada continues after. Meanwhile Ayel corners Kirk and Nero comes and beats him up (The whole "Captain Kirk was a great man, but that was another life" bit). Nero then goes off to chase after Spock. Ayel toys with Kirk for a bit while the Narada catches up with Spock and the final battle begins.
The Jellyfish tries to escape the Narada but Nero launches another barrage of torpedoes at him with Spock on a collision course with the Narada. Theres a beat where it looks like Spock is gonna die, but out of nowhere the Enterprise comes in the most AWESOME last minute save ever and blows all of torpedoes out the sky and allows Spock time to pilot the Jellyfish into the Narada. Scotty beams Spock back to the Enterprise. The collision knocks Ayel off guard which allows Kirk to knock him off the dramatcially placed railess ledge so Kirk can go and Save Pike. Which he does and they both beam Back to the Enterprise.
With the Red matter (the stuff which spock used to stop the shockwave from the Star Trek Countdown comics. Dw its explained better in the film than Ive done here) on the Jellyfish combusing inside the Narada, it creates another Black hole Temporal Wormhole thing inside the Narada tearing it apart. Kirk offers assistance to Nero but instead he gets a very Khan ish "I SPIT my last breath at thee!" (He doesnt say that, but something along those lines) reply as the Narada explodes inside the black hole. Of course, they arent out the woods yet. The Black hole starts to suck the Enterprise In. The ship goes to Warp to no avail as the Black hole does suck alot
and so Scotty has the idea of jettisoning the Warp core.
This is the ONLY bit which I can see pissing off Techies. Instead of one big Warp Core which were usually accustomed too, 12 or so mini warp cores shoot out the back of the Enterprise into the anomaly, detonating it and thus saving the ship.
Last part coming up next...
