can you recommend a ''MANGA'' series?

Well that's Tokyopop for you.

I've only read the first volume of Ecole du Ciel, but I have 2-4 lying arround somewhere, I like the art in that one. I'm also reading Fate/Stay Night as well as the Scrapped Princess novels, which I hope they actually decide to finish.

Tell me, What is the ''basic'' plot of both these titles? I've walked past them alot in my manga section at my ''Books a million'' and I've always noticed a TON! of both those titles! in fact both are displayed in such a way that you have to take notice!(Think Watchmen recently)

Tsubasa Chronicle- Princess Sakura activates some old ruins and loses her memories which are spread out into many different parallel worlds in the form of feathers. Sakura is dying and in order to save her Shouran makes a deal with Youko a dimensional witch. However, in order to gain the power to travel to alternate worlds and retrieve her memories he must pay a price in exchange. Sakura will no longer remember him, all the memories they shared growing up as well as their love for each other is erased as Shouran's penance. The dimensional witch gives him a way to communicate with her and travel dimensions as well as two companions who arrived each seeking other things.

XXXHolic-Watanuki is a boy plagued and tormented by spirits attracted to him like a magnet, that just won't leave him alone. One day he stumbles across the home of Youko the dimensional witch, and she promises to grant his wish to be free of the spirits. In exchange he must work for her, and become her servant/lackey.

Both of them are by the same people and made simultaneously. They also frequently cross over. I can't say anything about the mangas as don't read those two, but their anime incarnations aren't bad at all, despite being a little repetitive.

The anime versions of both shows lightly follow the manga. In the case of Tsubasa, only about a quarter of the episodes from the second season actually comes from the manga. They diverage and the manga becomes extremly violent and angst-full. Were talking about epic-level backstabbing and what not; a sharp contrast to what the anime/manga was like in the beginning. Its almost like the change in tone between the early episodes of Mai-Hime and the later ones.

With xxxHolic, the anime follows the manga pretty closely, except it cuts out all linkages between the holic and Tsubasa. At first it doesnt make that much of a difference, but as holic continues, the ties between the two shows get deeper. As of the current volumes of Holic and Tsubasa, I think its safe to say that you cant really get the story by reading only one of the series. You need both.

Azumanga Daioh and Yotsuba&! are my favourite mangas. Everyone I've lent them to love them!

I have rotten luck with manga. All of the ones I really get into and like the most take f***ing forever, to be released.

Yeah, you can see the difference most prominently in the Tokyo Revelations and Shunreiki OVAs which are about 10 times more violent and epic, of course they're also the part where the story actually moves somewhere and the characters get a ton of development.

Its the other way around. The manga is worth getting since the Tsubasa OVA is based off of some of the later chapters in the Tsubasa manga. That said, it only covers the Tokyo arc of tsubasa and not the Infinity and Serusu arcs that follow it. There are also no plans on continuing the Tsubasa series in anime forms. That said though, the Tsubasa OVA is an awesome anime experience, and to date is my favorite anime OVA period.

The recent xxxHolic OVA does allude to some aspects of the later chapters in the manga but unfortunatly, it really doesnt follow any of the manga chapters. Hopfully the future episodes of the OVA does so.

EDIT: Well, turns out im wrong on the Tsubasa side of things. They just released a Tsubasa OVA based on the events after Serusu. Unfortunately though, they still haven't animated Infinity and Serusu, the two arcs prior to the Nippon arc (the one currently being animated).

Yeah, that's the Shunreiki OVA I was talking about. It's awesomeness on the level of the previous Tokyo Revelations OVA. Yeah, though, it just kind of drops you into the middle of things.

I've actually found one to rec against; Not because it is badly written, but because I found the subject matter so disturbing, and that's coming from an EL fan who read through the facility experiments' uprising near the end. I speak of Narutaru/Shadow Star, which starts out like Pokemon and ends up like listening to The Beatles 'Revolution Number Nine' a hundred times when you're exhausted. I read through it because TV Tropes mentioned it among bully payback scenes, and it had that, and the bullies in question deserved--well, they deserved something, but my God--the whole thing is just this--I don't know what to call it. Unless you have more resilience than me, I advise to steer clear--and that's the censored version.

Id recommend against Shadowstar as well,but not for the same reasons. The damn thing has never been fully released in the United States and it looks like its never going to happen. And yeah, the American release is a god damn hack-job filled with censorship and chapter rearangment.
