Star Trek and Rock band (don't think it's April Fools)

That is the unlikeliest pairing I have ever seen. That alone is plenty of reason to doubt this but you never know, it's a different age of Trek.

I'm not sure what to make of this, too. Is there some tie in with the band?
The dance parties at which the appearances were made seem to tie together with the photomosaics on the official site which are mentioned in this thread. Someone has been setting up Star Trek (2009)-related photo booths, some of them at these dance parties.

EDIT:

The TrekMovie article mentions the Webster Hall dance party named in your link and this MC Murs is named on the poster for the event.

I found this , and there are at least three other news companies talking about it. I can't think of two more incompatible forms of entertainment teaming up.

Sorry if I just pop in and offer my opinion...

I can't see anything wrong with it. It might be unusual - from a Star Trek purist's perspective - but it seems that Trek fandom is more and more branching out, including more and more people with varying interests. I guess the times are over for good when Star Trek was still the sole hunting ground of science fiction nuts and computer geeks...

I can only hope I can download the new uniforms, Vulcan ears, Vulcan hair, a federation insignia shaped guitar, and a couple other Trek related things for Rock Band.

And this is actually sung by the same man who played Marshal Murdock, the guy who backstabbed John Rambo in Rambo: First Blood Part II...
Not only that, but:
Captain Wainwright: Let's perform an alien autopsy on these invaders.
Garland: While they're still alive? That's barbaric!
Wainwright: Then leave the job to tough guys like General Denning and me!
Carlson: Tough, eh? Did you know that the general used to be a guitar-playing teenage hippie?
Wainwright: Pfft...that's a likely story.

I think this is brilliant!

Personally, I think this is probably why this idea works out even more. They are reaching out to as many walks of life on this. Besides, they are probably hitting the right demographic, or at least a big part of the demographic they are wanting to with this promotion. This is why I think this is brilliant.

I'm cool with it, too. It sounds like a real laugh... plus it could be the next big thing among cosplayers/reenactors. So - why not?

I have my doubts about the authenticity of this! I can see them doing this for "almighty Star Wars"..but i just don't see it happening for Trek.

There is nothing to "doubt". It's real and on the official Rock Band website.

Also, I don't see why Star Trek can't get the same kind of attention regarding its marketing as Star Wars gets.
