(Major Spoilers) How Come WE've Debated Just about Everything But...

..the fact that BORG TECHNOLOGY plays a major part in this movie?

Some Folks around here have stated that they find the Time-Travel aspect of this movie worrisome and/or overused, but nobody has complained about or even praised (that I have noticed) the fact that Nero uses BORG NANITES to upgrade the Narada to a point where it seems to be even more BAD ASS than Captain Robau (if that's even possible. ;))

Perhaps it's not even mentioned in the movie, but the Prequel Comics have stated it as a fact.

The BORG have been used almost as much as Time Travel (if not more).

Have I missed something here??

Also...
Is this another link to the Original Time-Line (from ENTERPRISE on) that proves that this Changes Everything, or does it mean that Everything is the Same???

Ignoring for a moment whether or not it is mentioned in the film, why would Nero using Borg technology be a problem? Isn't Nero and his ship from a post-Nemesis tim period (late 24th or very early 25th century) --a time period in which Borg techology is "not unknown", and may even be common.

Doesn't look like it changes anything.

The Narada is refitted back in the 24th century where the Borg are already a known race.

And even if the Borg are mentioned in the movie, the Federation of the 23rd century already knows about them too , thanks to the events of First Contact and Enterprise.

Those didn't change anything. That film, and episode, were part of a predestination paradox - a closed loop. They always happened.

You've both missed part of my point...

(though after re-reading both of your posts, it may not be something that either of you care about.)

How come Time-Travel being used is a problem/annoyance for some, but apparently BORG TECHNOLOGY being used again isn't?

I very much doubt the Borg technology aspect of Nero's ship will be mentioned.

Whatever they were, the point remains that now the Federation knows about the existence of the Borg.
So no problem there.

I didn't really miss the point, I just don't have a problem with this use of Borg tech. ;)

Because Borg tech is fine considering that the ship came from the future.

I understand your question now...but I can't answer it since I have no problem with them using "the ol' time travel story", nor do I have a problem with them using a seemingly TNG plot device, like a ship with Borg technology.

It's "all very Star Trek", so I have no problem with those being used in a Star Trek film

Well, now you've done it; they'll all be on their way over here...

If the device of Borg technology is used in order to make the Narada a more powerful threat, I don't necessarily disapprove. Depends on how they handle it. I had no problem with the Borg as a concept, my problem was with having them unimaginatively trotted out time and again to get their asses kicked just in time for sweeps.

Re: (Major Spoilers) How Come WE've Debated Just about Everything But.

Because time travel has been overused and the Borg haven't.

No, seriously, you're right. I have no idea.

Awww, can't we have hippies, please?! :(

Re: (Major Spoilers) How Come WE've Debated Just about Everything But.

What would a Borged Q look and act like?

Bingo. I'm a Trekkie and if they say the word 'Borg' in this movie I'll check out. I can only imagine what a general audience would do.

It's a cool bit of back story for the comics but you don't need it for the film. The ship is big and cool and it destroys things. That's all they really need to show.

Updated for the 21st century? Emos in space?

Re: (Major Spoilers) How Come WE've Debated Just about Everything But.

Did someone say Space Emos? I'd love me some Space Emos! :D

Re: (Major Spoilers) How Come WE've Debated Just about Everything But.

I think the Narada being based or using Borg tech makes perfect sense, it is a powerful ship, and the Borg have always proven to have some of the most advanced technology out there, it would make sense to use it to build a powerful ship. At the time he comes from there are Borg parts that have been salvaged from all the interaction with the Borg. It was even mentioned in a Voyager ep that there were Borg cubes in the Beta quadrant, and if Nero is from the Beta quadrant, perhaps has run into the Borg at some point.
