Chris Pine at the Kids Choice Awards

I've never watched the Kids Choice Awards and don't want to, but what is with the slime?

It's a Nickelodeon tradition that dates back to the early 80s. It was a staple on a Canadian skit program called You Can't Do That On Television, and it became so popular that it emerged as a trademark for the entire channel.

I used to watch Nickelodeon from 1988 to 1995. Oh, the memories! At least this shows how Trek is trying to market itself more heavily to a younger demographic, as opposed to a niche-heavy strategy.

Thanks for the explanation! I'm really glad that the marketing is targeting such a diverse age group, too. Hit the kiddies with the Kellogs/Burger King/Toys and Nick :techman:

He presented an award. You can see him in this video here. And an LA Times article about it.

When was it on? I was going to attempt to watch it to see how the Rock was going to perform (since I think he doesn't do very well in the cinema), the last Kids Choice Awards I watched was when Hulk Hogan hosted it back in the 80's.

This is nothing but great news all around. Many of us got into 'Trek when we were kids. The idea we can have kids discover Trek in this day and age is something that really hasn't been possible for the franchise nearly forever.

It was on yesterday. Check the video link. You may also be able to see the Rock on video

I watched the awards (hey, I'm a kid at heart, ok? ;)), and was surprised when Pine was among those said to appear, at the beginning. I figured he could only be there because of Star Trek, since he really hasn't done anything else recently. It was nice for the whole "conversation" between him and America Ferrera to be about Trek. Though I was a bit annoyed that America did the Vulcan salute wrong (she did it with the back of her hand facing forward). And what's funny is that I bet hardly any of those kids knows who the heck Star Trek is, much less Kirk (other than the previews they may have seen for the movie).

The last encore on Nickelodeon is on right now. However, it will be shown tonight at 6 Eastern on The N, and at 9 Eastern on Nicktoons Network.

And get this: The Dark Knight was one of the nominees for Favorite Movie, but it didn't win. Ok, so who did win the award? High School Musical 3. That's right, High School Musical 3 beat The Dark Knight for Favorite Movie. Only at the Kids' Choice Awards!

When my little brother (who is 8 ) was watching the awards, there were about 3 TV spots for XI and after he saw nuKirk he came and told me he wanted to see the new movie.
So its working.

Probably because that movie was geared towards kids more than The Dark Knighit was.

Probably because of the amount of pretty people in HSM3.

I swear, if I were a kid again, I'd be royally angry at the Dark Knight losing to HSM3. Then again, my favorite film at age 11 was The Fugitive starring Harrison Ford, so that's just my tastes in film.

Considering Viacom owns Nickelodeon, I'm a little surprised they didn't have the entire bridge crew up there.

Maybe next year.

That's good to hear!:techman:

Ya I don't see a film which has a psychotic clown with ''daddy'' issue's, and ''mutalated'' face as something purposely targeted to the ''kids'' don't you?

"Wanna know how I got these scars? Let's sit down with a McDonald's value meal and I'll tell you. You can tell how much care they put into cooking these patties because they look like Harvey Dent's face!"

I guess you're surprised that the younger set knows about Trek...I'm not, because it is ingrained in our culture (beam me up etc...) I also asked my newphew if his peers know about Trek and he said yes and that they said it was nerdy :(

Personally for me I never really associated Trek w/ nerd-dom. I'm not a nerd, my friends who liked it were never nerds and the people I still know who like it are not nerds.....or for fucks sake are we?????
