So I was reading some posts here the other day and one of them got me thinking -- which is never a good thing........BUT...I mean there is NO WAY that Shatner would appear in this movie as the ultimate surprise and that somehow, someway they've kept it under wraps...?

Anyone else thinking/hoping/wishing <---- insert whatever adjective you like that this will happen?

    Shatner fans.

    He's not in the movie.

    Get over it.

You know, Cakes, with that thread you broke a particularly long record of time in which no Shatner thread appeared in this forum. :(

I'm hoping he will not and believe he will not appear.
    Leonard Nimoy is enough.

Let the old guys rest and move on already.

    Yes.

I mean, yes, you are deluding yourself, unfortunately...
I myself had hoped and wished that somehow (somehow!) the great Bill Shatner James T. Kirk would be there when classic Star Trek passes the baton to the true next generation, but, alas, even for J.J. Abrams and his crew canon apparently is canon and canon says that Admiral Kirk died like a measly little punk on some s***hole of planet to make sure that TNG gets rid of any competition... but I digress. ;)

I am not a Shatner fan per se...I'm a Kirk fan...and don't worry...I'm over it alright...over this whole damn movie!

Your little resting remark can also be applied to Nimoy as well. Perhaps in Kirk was in it and Spock not then I'd be saying the same thing back to you.

But wait! Would he really have to come back as Kirk???? I think not!! Can't he be young Kirks grandfather or uncle....maybe he could be a kindly teacher at the acedemy.... I mean come on...there was room to include him in some way !

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a Nimoy fan-Shatner hater or something.
I would not care if Nimoy wasn't in it. If you had asked me back when we didn't know he was part of Trek XI I would have said the same about Nimoy that I told you about Shatner.

But since Nimoy is in it after all, what can I do. I accept it.
As I said one of the old guard is more than enough. (for me at least)

No more torch passings and fan valentines. On with the new guys.

Bill Shatner is old Kirk and not his grandfather or his uncle (not even his moustachioed brother)...
However, I would already be content if old Spock would show new Kirk a hologram of old Kirk just to make him realize what he could accomplish/will accomplish/has accomplished in 'another life'...

    OK

I am young but I grew up watching TOS, TNG etc etc (thanks dad !)
And I love them. I love Nimoy and Shatner and all the other guys.
That does not mean they have to be dragged in every Trek movie until the unfortunate day that they die.
They've had their time and it was a good one.

If I want to see them again I'll pop my TOS dvd's in the player and enjoy myself.:bolian:

And by the way I like both Star Trek and Star Wars.
    Am I bad ?:p

William Shatner is not Star Trek. I do not and have never cared about his presence (or lack thereof) in this movie.

Hell, I don't even care that Nimoy is in it. For me, Trek has always been much, much bigger than any one character or actor.

    Of course, you are right.
For me, it's just a personal thing (dating back to my early childhood and all the games I played with my cousin) and I would never expect anyone to follow my lead or even take seriously what it write in this regard...

W ay before I had seen any footage of this movie I suspected that Shatner as Kirk would be the big secret surprise that was going to revealed. However, after seeing all the trailers and the pictures and some write ups of what is known about the plot I no longer feel that way. It is not the direction this story is going.

Well yeah your bad...but not for liking star wars....LOL. I love star wars are you kidding...but my comment was referencing the fact that the star wars prequels sucked (IMO) compared to the original masterpieces and that was with Lucas at the helm who I was completely confident it....so i'm just jaded about this new trek movie....i have reservations.

Well right here we completely and severly disagree. For me these characters ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE like batman/superman/bond/spiderman...there's only one Kirk period amen. When anyone mentions star trek...me and everybody i've ever known thinks of one thing: TOS...not next gen, not deep space etc..etc..etc...
So with star treks more recent series; they've tried to capture the original magic but it's never really lived up to it....don't get me wrong the newer star treks are not bad -- but they can't come close to TOS...I'm sure people will wanna rip me a new one over that comment so i better just lube up right now. LOL

I would be happy with that and that would work!

Maybe at the beginning of the movie, there could be a scene where young boy kirk watched a t.j. hooker rerun on t.v. in iowa. then his abusive alcoholic uncle could come in and bust up the t.v. or something.

This flick is keeping hugh secrets but I do not believe an appearance by the original Kirk Unit is one of them.
