That was actually pretty funny...but no. I think like someone else said the actor playing Traveler (who I am so glad didn't get the DATA part) seems kind of soft which gives the impression...

I don't think he wanted to kiss Picards "ASS", but his lips may have been aiming at another part of the bald captains body. Not like there is anything wrong with that though...in the 24th century we are no longer a blind society when it comes to sex and race.

Thank you kindly. This thread has been bugging me for a few days now. I just figured it was time for a shot across the bow. Sorry if everyone doesn't share my sense of humor.....that was actually a running joke in my high school back in the mid 80's.
I am bothered that some seem to think there needs to be a 'gay overtone' to the relationship between the 'T' and Wes. I never got that. I'm bothered that some see the soft tones that the 'T' used in his speaking as being perceived as being gay. He didn't speak that way just to Wes, he spoke that way to everyone. To me it was a tone of exhaustion paired with the voice of a teacher. 'T' knew things that humans hadn't begun to imagine...and he desperately needed them to understand. But it was still the voice of a teacher. I've had the fortune of having a teacher that, one on one, would speak in that same kind of caring manner. Being a first grader at the time, I'm pretty sure she wasn't trying to get into my pants. But the first time I saw that Ep, the message of 'teacher' realy hit home. To me.......that's all it was.

No, I don't get a "gay vibe" from either Wesley or the Traveler. The Traveler appears to be a Mystic who is connected in some metaphysical way with the universe and it transcends our understanding of space/time. Wesley is a gifted young man who has much potential. That's all.

Yes I got a gay vibe from 'The Traveler', both characters were wrote kind of gay way but I don't they were attracted to each other. I think Wesley always had that gayness thing about him, I mean outside of study he didn't really do anything normal kids do except maybe hang out with his mommy. Which is kind of a gay thing to be doing everyday

I'm not trying to pick a fight but I think there's an undeniable gay, camp quality whatever you want to call it to Wesley. Perhaps its just the way this character was wrote, maybe Gene had envisioned a gay character and since he passed away he never got to do his whole gay tv thing. A gay and lesbian thing would have been a big social issue in the 90s but now not so much.
Wesley had an undeniable gay quality. I remember watching syndicated Trek as a kid and one thing you never wanted to be was Wesley. As a kid you wanted to be Geordi smart, Picard intelligent, you wanted to be Worf tough but you never wanted to be Wesley....not that there's anything wrong with being a guy like Wesley. However if you went to school acting like Wesley you were going to invite a lot of trouble on yourself and you would be dealing with a lot of bullies. Nothing Wesley did made him seem like a normal kid who kicked football, played a guitar or ride a motorbike. Heck you even wanted to be Worf's little angry orphan child Alexander before you wanted to be Wesley. There was just something 'undeniable' about Wesley, his multi colored rainbow jumpers, people telling him to Shut-Up and Wesley would run away stunned, the way he crossed his legs, the way he walked with his skinny arms folded over his nipples like you see girls walking, even many of Wesley's hetrosexual romance scenes were wrote gay.
I don't know what's your problem its not just me who has seen this, all across the internet there are posts on this 'undeniable' quality to Wesley.

I sort of get what you're saying. And if anyone on this board who denies that there was ever a 'wesely is gay' vibe for that character certainly isn't being truthful. We have had many threads about Wesley's sexual preference. The thing is? Who cares.
In fact there have been several threads bringing up Picard's sexual preference, I know, I did one about two months ago and we had a great discussion about it.
As long as using a characters possible sexual preference isnt used to tear the character down then I don't have a problem bringing it up. Had Picard been gay, or bi-sexual, who cares? If Wesely is gay? SO WHAT. And if we want to talk about it, then great. What's all the fuss??? So far I have yet to see any attacks on a characte for maybe being 'gay' or 'bi'. Its time to bring talking about the subject out of, ahem, the closet. Get rid of the stigmitism (oh I butchered that word I am sure) and talk about anything freely and then you actually may educate the very people who seem close minded about such topics.
Now...talking about bowel movements of characters? That might not be too wise...I'll try soon. I actualliy have a thought about that topic.

Kate, I don't think, and I havent read the entire thread, but I don't think that was the purpose. I remember going to conventions all through the 90s where there would be discussions about Wesley's sexual preference. These were usually interesting discussions. There was great specuation about him. This isn't any breaking news. It was often discussed, and usually because of something that was going on in a particular episode.
For anyone to deny that there was such talk is just lunacy. There was. AND SO WHAT? Usually, as I said, it was done with taste since most TREK fans seem open minded about. Now, had a poster in this thread said he was a bad character because he was maybe gay? Then I would agree with you. But so far as I can tell, they just asked as simple question; does Wesley put off a GAY vibe? And I would add PICARD. Any my answer to both would be....YES. And then my second reply would be? They are still great characters...
But backlash against those who bring up a character/actors sexual preference is simply going to cause a 'wtf' responce IF it was brought up maturely.

^ I think you should read the entire thread then, Robert. I'm not talking about the general issue of Wesley's sexual orientation - I'm talking about this particular thread. The discussion hasn't been awful, but it hasn't been the most mature I've seen here, either. It really has been pretty darn high school, in my opinion (and more than a bit creepy, here and there - not the OP but one or two posts from subsequent posters). You should probably judge for yourself.

Well, I do know you kate, you're one of the few on this site I will agree with about a thread with out having to go back and read the entire thread. If this thread has become like that then I totally agree with you. Its too bad too, because there have been good discusions about this in the past. I'm going to unsubscribe to this thread though, which is usally what I do when they get distastefull...
