Although I like DS9 very much, this character somehow always rubbed me the wrong way.
So, out of curiosity, a simple poll : did you like this character or not?

Just saw that episode for the first time two nights ago. I liked the character, and the portrayal. A nice temporary reprieve from the War.

I wonder if, during the scene in which there is a hologram of Kira, if that was her singing voice? It sounded just like her.

Yeah I like Fontaine. The songs where relaxing (and it was funny watching Brooks sing at the end of Badda-Bing,Badda-Bang)

Indifferent. I hated him when he first showed up when I was 12, but since then I have come to appreciate some of the great scenes he had in the show, such as his speech to Nog in It's Only a Paper Moon. He'll never be one of my favourite characters, but he and his singing just doesn't bother me anymore. I also love his song with Sisko at the end of Badda-Bing-Badda-Bang, one of DS9's great "light" moments.

I like the character, but hate most of his scenes, if that makes sense.

He reminded me of Vince Fontaine from Grease.

Yeah, I think I kind of get what you're saying. I personally didn't mind him in his first few appearances in Season 6, but I felt they overused him in Season 7. There was kind of a point to his role in "His Way", but after that, I don't think he was really necessary to the show. Sure, he helped out Nog, but I'm sure someone else could have done that... like, oh I don't know, Ezri, maybe? You know, the actual counselor?

I don't hate him, though, and James Darren at least made the character watchable.

I liked him. Some of the stuff they used him for was a little silly. But I thought the actor was terrific, he really gave Vic style and made him likeable, and for the most part I felt they put Vic to good use.

I particularly adore the way he was used in "It's Only A Paper Moon". It's amazing they were able to craft an incredible episode like that around Nog and Vic .

Re. Daneel: I don't think you could have used Ezri instead of Vic. The fact that Nog was running into a virtual fantasy was part of the point, I think. And the fact that Vic is so engaging, so charming made it all the more easy for him to get lost in that existence. It also showed the barriers between Nog's and Vic's lives.

Although I really got tired of the entire holodeck business, especially after it started malfunctioning and spinning off sentient life forms, I have to admit Vic grew on me. At the same time, though, it also bothered me. I'm confused.

Vic was awesome. I liked him. I hope they managed to slip him a copy of the EMH's holo emitter so Vic could leave the holosuite.

Stupid character, and the dumbest episode of DS9 was when they all went to the Holosuite to save Vic's casino. Talk about "Jumping the Shark".

I find it strange why a hologram in an entertainment suite would get hyperintelligent, unlike an EMH, but I quite liked the character in "It's Only a Paper Moon" which I have seen on Virgin 1 this evening (I voted "Indifferent").

Complex adaptive software + suitably robust hardware = intelligence? Maybe.

I love Vic, he's an amazing character. Best holo character ever bar none.

Badda Bing was a really dumb, pointless waste of an episode that I don't like though. But that's not a Vic problem, that's a poor writing problem.:techman:

I wouldn't go that far. Yes Badda Bing is bad, but nowhere near as horrifically bad as the abominable worst of the worst of DS9, like Fascination, Melora, The Muse, Profit and Lace, Chrysalis etc. etc.
