So you do care about the "real" characters? Vic is to the DS9 characters what they are to us.

Mmm if I get you correctly.

This a bit of an esoterical discussion?
I like the statement!

However its just really hierarchical:
Vic is to the DS9 characters
as
the DS9 characters are to US

The DS9 Characters are to US
as
US (we) are to .... God (A diety, higher power?) etc.

Of course it is also reciprocal (which is what you may have meant)
IE:
(God, higher power) is to US
as
we are to the DS9 Characters.

The DS9 Characters are to us
as
The DS9 Characters are to VIC

However I have seen Worf in manys a TNG episode and know of his culture and family and past. etc
and consider him a "real" character along with O,Brien etc

I didn't care for him at all. Then again, I didn't care for most Holodeck stories on any Trek show.

Vic was pretty cool, but he went right up against the edge of "too much" and never fell over.

I liked Vic and Paper Moon was a great episode and completely different to the type of stuff I normally like

didn't like vic, but I did appreciate the episode paper moon, so, both ways.

edit: I also must say I liked the oceans eleven episodes ability to give sisko and his interest in history, and his strong identity as a man of african heritage to shine through.

Vic Fontaine was maybe over-used in Season 7, but I still VERY much enjoyed every episode he was in, where he played some sort of pivotal role - he kind of brought things more down to earth, gave us a break from the "geeky, science-y" side of Star Trek for once. Paper Moon was a wonderful episode.

He just strikes me as something the production team thought was cool and hence...it felt like his presence was in every episode. I just couldn't stand him because all the while I was thinkng....er, we could be doing something else instead of letting you production types run amok in your own personal Rat Pack fantasy!

100% agree. I really dislike that rat pack era music, and it just felt like the writers thought it was so "cool" that they had to shove it into every episode. For me, not so "cool". I hate the way those 60s crooners took perfectly good songs from the 20s and 30s and added all that arrogance and swagger to them. Ugh. "Paper Moon" in particular upset me for this reason.

But to be fair to them, that is more down to my personal taste than anything else. ;)

I voted "bored the hell out of me" but I like the idea behind the character. If they had set it in any other situation, any other time period, I probably would have like it a whole lot more.
