Star Trek new trailer description (Spoilers of course?)

But again, that feeling of loosing something I've been really fond of for so many years, keeps creeping into my thoughts... :(
What are you loosing?

I probably couldn't explain it to you so you'd understand, it's a just gut feeling I have.

You see this as a great new adventure, which I'm sure it will be for some...

But it won't be The Trek that I've enjoyed for over forty years.

Again, you're all gung-ho and see this as a good thing, I just happen to have reservations at this point.

They may ease once I actually see the movie, but they may not.

I know all about the fact that I won't be losing what has come already, (DVD's and such) but I find some of the changes that We have seen so for to be unnecessary and I believe that changing things just because one can changes things, isn't always a good thing.

I also believe that this movie is not really going to bring all these New Fan's that people are clamoring about we need to save the franchise.

I just don't see it happening, I think it's going to do more of a disservice to those of Us that have been loyal for so long.

That's just the way I feel about it and I'm not asking anybody to agree with me, so don't get all righteous and come back at me with reasons why I'm wrong...

I don't care.

I respect ure opinion, but its simple man....losing something uve been so fond of all these years....I think u should have a look around u, or should I say the last 7yrs - have we had any trek? have we had kirk? spock? or better still if ure worried about losing something u should go watch Nemesis and Insurrection with 4 seasons of Enterprise sprinkled in between; and to top off those wonderful memories start drooling over an autographed picture of Brannon Braga and Rick Berman -----only then should u start thinking about what has been lost.

Man the legacy of Star Trek has been put through the trash compactor in the last 8yrs, an absolute disaster, my memories of trek and what it stands for have been in ruins coz of the last 8yrs......We havent had trek since DS9 went off the air back in 99
This movie is our shot to get it right and to brink back trek into the fold like it never has before.....

With regards to bringing in the new fans.....its all about dollars whether trek is going to continue and I dont think the guys at Paramount care whether they're doing a service or not to us coz quite simply we DONT bring in the dollars for feature films....take a look at Nemesis on its opening week end....despite a big media promotion it only did 15mill bucks, beaten humiliatingly by maid in manhattan (WTF?!?)....15 mill is what hard core trekkers can bring to the box office, its sad but true, thats all that can be mustered by the hard core fan base...
So no wonder the media campaign for this film is based on getting new viewers but the word of mouth is working well, a lot of my non trekker friends are looking forward to see it mainly coz of the last trailer, they all said the car chase sequence really engaged their interest

I'm with you.

Instead of trying to create new fans, maybe they should make a movie that the majority of current trek fans could get excited about. After all, there are thousands and thousands of us. More than enough to support a series of well-written, well-developed movies. I have that same feeling of loss that you have. Sure, we have a nice, shiny new movie. But it's at the expense of all of that "history". Will we ever see another movie that builds on "established" Trek? I think the answer, sadly is "no".

I am thinking the hardcore Trek fans were there during Nemesis and see how it turned out? No, we are not enough to support anything. TNG didn't give new life to Trek by pandering to just Trek fans. Same with this movie. And I for one want this movie to succeed beyond even my expectations.

NEMESIS was a big disappointment (mostly, I believe because of the chosen director), I happen to like ENTERPRISE (but that's a whole different thread), I'm not asking or requiring Paramount to pander toward me or anyone else. I realized from the start that things were going to be different.
I'm just saying that in my gut, I think the current movie is going too far away from what I've known as Star Trek.

It'll probably please a lot of people (Fans and Newbies alike), I could possibly end up liking it as a movie also, I'm just not sure that in the long run it's going to be a good thing for the Star Trek that I love.

I have no facts or quotes to back this up, as I have said repeatedly, it's just a gut feeling of mine.

Thanks to Trekmovie.com, we now have an exclusive new description of the new Star Trek trailer (trailer 4), which will be added in front of Watchmen next Friday (March 6th).

The new trailer starts off with a new shot of the young Chris Pine Kirk on motorcycle headed for the Enterprise being constructed. We then see more of the scene in the Iowa bar, with Pike (Bruce Greenwood) saying to Kirk "I couldn’t believe it when the bar tender told me who you are" and Kirk replying back with the "why are you talking to me man" line (seen in the Super Bowl commercial). Cut to image of studio logos.

My thoughts:

SHIT!! Vulcan implodes??

"James T. Kirk was a great man, but that was another life." < Reboot! Reboot! Yay!!

"I've been waiting for this my whole life." < Places the Countdown comics as non-canon then?

Torpedo cam?! F*ck yeah! :techman:
StarTrek1701, I've edited your post so that only a portion of the article is quoted.

We ask that you cite relevant sections, rather than reprinting the entire description verbatim, and provide a link to the remainder; in this way we don't run into stepping-on-copyright problems, and Anthony at TrekMovie gets the page-views on his site for the article and trailer summary which he wrote (which doesn't happen if the whole thing's right here.)

We want to treat our valuable sources of up-to-date Trek information fairly, you know? :)

Sorry. I already linked it in my post, so that wouldn't be enough? I didn't know, sorry. :)

"James T. Kirk was a great man, but that was another life."

I hope there's not too much in the way of self-conscious "passing the torch" stuff like this in the film, but I love the line. :techman:

If the tone of the new Star Trek movie mimics NuBSG, be prepared for a box-office bomb...

Like The Dark Knight bombed?

Clearly this Spock has no aversion to the touchy-feely stuff, hugging with Uhura and beating the crap out of Kirk (it's touching...in a way).

Maybe Spock'll get to say his most famous emotional line.....

All together now.....

THE WOMEN!

I also believe that this movie is not really going to bring all these New Fan's that people are clamoring about we need to save the franchise.

TAS brought in many new fans, but angered a few old ones.

TMP brought in many new fans, but angered a few old ones.

ST II brought in many new fans, but angered a few old ones.

ST IV brought in many new fans, but angered a few old ones.

TNG brought in many new fans, but angered a few old ones.

ST XI will bring in many new fans, but will anger a few old ones.

So what else is new?

I hope a lot! If ST XI brings in 'many new fans' in the same numbers as the other series/movies, it's not going to make near enough money.

I hope it's more a 'crapload' than 'many'.

I thought when the box office sales vs budget figures of TMP were adjusted for inflation, ST XI only has to succeed as well as TMP did to do well?

The only difference is that, with TMP, many people went multiple times over the many, many months it ran on the big screen. These days most people see a film once, then await the DVD.
