Is "Star Trek" a goofy title?

Most of us are probably so used to hearing the words "Star Trek" that we don't think about it, but if you do, it is kind of a goofy-sounding title, isn't it? Although, I'm sure it could have been much worse. Can anyone think of a better or worse name for our favorite show(s)?

I know what you mean OP. When I was 7 or 8 I looked up "Trek" in the dictionary and ever since it's left me with the connotation that the voyage may be long but also very difficult. What I'm saying is the word ends up feeling sort of like a pejorative term for what should be an enjoyable, exciting journey.

And yet 'Star Wars' isn't seen as a goofy title by many. (It is, in fact)

Don't judge a show by its title, I say. Firefly, Buffy, and Lost aren't great names, but they're some of my fave shows.

I prefer Journada nas Estrelas! That's actually what they call it in portuguese. Every time I'm in Brazil I see it.

I think it was "Trek through the stars" although I could be mistaken.

TLS is right, Q says "it's time to put an end to your little trek through the stars..." in the TNG series finale. I love First Contact, but I have to admit it was a little awkward and unnatural when Cochrane said that line. Kinda like Hugh Grant in "Love Actually" saying, "Love, actually is all around us" just so his character would say the title of the movie, instead of the more natural "love is actually all around us". I love the title. It seems to promise an adventure in a way that sounds both wonderful and ominous at the same time.
