Spoilers For Stargate Universe's Pilot

...so it's like Voyager except the "Pathfinder" episode is in season one. It sounds like the writers are about to make the same mistake twice... chickening out on the isolated from Earth premise. I'd also agree it won't take long to figure out how long to regain navigation control. Rodney usually does it in one act.

What this show needs is a robot. A big robot. A hulking tank-like golem. A big hulking tank-like alien golem bristling with guns, made by a long dead civilization during an ancient war to systematically wipe out all life on an entire planet. After completing it's mission, it was abandoned and had nothing to do but lisiten to classical music and read poetry for well over a million years. This experience has turned this war machine into a mellow intellectual, in stark contrast to firepower he possesses. He would serve as the both the big strong warrior and the pacifistic voice of reason after being rescued from a lifeless planet by the crew. Of course, he would be voiced by Kelsey Grammer.

Such a character would almost certainly be superior to Eli Hitchcock; a professional video game player isn't nearly as cool as a big heavily armed robot voiced by Kelsey Grammer.

Excellent idea, but this is even better: the spaceship is voiced by Kelsey Grammer and keeps up a constant stream of sarcastic commentary about everything the crew does.

"At peace, I await the arrival of the relief column."

and then the crew finds a ship almost like a brother to the destiny voiced by David Hyde Pierce.

And then the brother-spaceships fight to the death!

But instead of photon torpedoes, they use cutting remarks as their weapons of choice.

I don't understand how they could become totally isolated from Earth cause as the way I see it is there on an Ancient ship that seeds Stargates and will no doubt have multiple communication methods (including the mentioned body swap device). Also the way I read it, there going to be back tracking Planets with Stargates on them which means they could develop a means of eventually dialing either Earth itself (if they GDO's) or a planet where SGC members may inhabit.

The Ancient ship-Destiny, is in another galaxy. While the Ancients possessed the means of real time trans galactic communication (the body swap doohickey couldn't have been the only thing they came up with) , the SGC doesn't. Also the galaxy is even further away than Pegasus, and without a ZPM or equivalent power source, there's no way to dial Earth Or Pegasus, so they're stuck. :alienblush:

Well using the Stargate route I suggested doesn't need to be direct. They could always go from Gate to another until they get close to the Milky way. Of course I do realise that this way would take a while as they could be some distance away but if they had an idea of what gates to dial on the way then it might not take that long.

You can't gate across the void between galaxies without some serious power, no matter how close to the edge of the galaxy you're in is to the other... :)

Well they can with the ninth chevron, maybe it takes 1.21 gigawatts to power it. :techman:

I love how so much of SG's fandom is condemning the show before it even airs. *sigh* This sounds eerily like the lynch mob that was forming when SG:A was announced. And by the end of the first season, some of those same people were eating their words. I wonder how many now will be as well?

Yeah, it sounds like Voyager crossed with Lost in Space and Space 1999, big frigging deal. Throwing Our Heroes into the abyss where they can't get home has been done more times than that, and outside of science fiction, too. So has the whole "space station/city where everything comes to us" setup. Arguing lack of originality of concept in televised science fiction? Hell, even nuBSG wasn't that original if you look at it with an unbiased eye. All it did was take a lot of the old war movie tropes and put them in space.

From what I've heard so far, it sounds interesting. I'm certainly willing to give it an episode or two before I decide to condemn it.
