Wesley Crusher says Relax, Star Trek is pretty goddamn awesome

I like Wheaton in general and his recent enthusiasm after seeing Watchmen made me want to see it too, when before I was going to wait for the dvd.

He seems to know something more about Trek XI too :

This is not to say that the “Star Trek” movie is all mindless action, or style over substance; I can’t tell you why, but I know that it isn’t.
I also can’t tell you why, but I also know that it’s pretty goddamn awesome.
I guess what I’m saying is, relax, people. This isn’t “Dukes of Hazzard” or “Land of the Lost.”

Well he was IN the last movie before Stuart Baird left 99% of his footage on the cutting room floor. Of course he's going to say it was good.

There's a tragic old blog entry from Wil where, trying to be philosophical that most of his stuff had been cut from NEM, he is chatting to a ST contact on the phone and Wil says he'll probably see them at the gala premiere. There is silence. The news is broken that it was that night, and Wil was not even on the guest list.

I hope we can all agree that there's a LOT of wiggle room between "goddamn awesome" and "Dukes of Hazzard and Land of the Lost." ;)

I won't be able to relax until I've seen what they've done to Star Trek. You can rearrange footage, speed it up and tailor it for advertising purposes... giving us split second shots out of context. What matters is the finished article and only a select few are in the know. Even then, they're under threat of "being sued in the face", and have to embargo any opinion for another 10 weeks...

Well, now that one of the big names from the franchise has spoken, we can all breathe a sigh of relief.

People,

Some of you may already know this, but I didn't see a thread when I first came into the forum about it, so I'll just post here. I just saw the latest trailer, which focuses on Kirk, and it reveals that the voiceover in the first long trailer is Captain Pike speaking to Kirk. It seems that this Jim Kirk is some kind of malcontent and troublemaker, and that Pike sets himself up to steer him straight. I like that idea of a late mentor for Kirk.

As for Wil Wheaton, bless his heart. Does he have any other projects coming out? I think playing Wesley derailed his career, which started out strong. Stand By Me is a terrific movie.

The poor guy even got cut from Nemisis. It sucks when you even get cut from a pile of crap like that.

He got to visit with his friends and he also got paid to do it, it couldn't have been that sucky.

'sides being mostly cut out of that mess, is probably a blessing in disguise.

Now he can leave it off his resume.

One would think he'd probably be happy he was cut from that pile of crap.

Alright that is just damn uncomfortable for the person on the other end of the phone and two, just wrong. Like or hate Wesley, Wil Wheaton's TNG episode reviews on his blog are some funny AND accurate observations. Plus his behind the scenes comments are enlightening.

He probably didn't want to sound bitter and sour-grapesy.

Didn't The Shatman go on a rant when he found out he wasn't going to be involved with the movie? Maybe Wil didn't want any comparisons made...

The blog entry in question was from long before the earliest peep about this movie was heard. Wil handled it pretty gracefully and, having said it once, was all done talking about it.

Shatner, on the other hand... probably isn't done yet.

I dunno, I haven't heard anything from him lately. I think he's too busy having pissing contests with Takei to be mad about the new movie. More than likely, he's thinking of soemthing new to be mad about for a few months.

Wheaton at least embraces his old TNG image and milks it for what it's worth. He's more down-to-earth than Shatner is most of the time, and doesn't try to pretend he's done or is doing "far better" since his TREK years ended.
