^Insurrection was the first Trek film that really felt like a direct to video B grader. It wasn't only just a two-part TNG ep, but it wouldn't have even been a very good two part TV episode.
Insurrection was what a TOS movie would have been if Friday's Child hadn't been an episode but instead a feature-length film.

The similarities are striking--heathen natives we care nothing about, Enterprise called away, rather uninspiring villains, stupid costumes. At least Friday's Child had those cool boomerangs. Then again, Insurrection had those badass Son'a battleships, which looked like boomerangs.

Hmm. Two people voted for TWOK? We all know The God Thing hates everything connected to that film and would happily dance on the rotting corpse of Harve Bennett if given the chance. But who else dislikes the film? Hmm...

I'm suprised that nemesis is outvoting FF, being that Nemesis wasn't THAT bad.

Whats funny about the results so far in this thread is that so far only "Search for Spock" and "TUC" have no votes for being the worst movie, but IMO it is not likely that they would win in a "vote for your Favorite" Trek movie thread.

I love how a movie with bad FX, terrible attempts at comedy, mocks most of the crew, no clear villain or point of view, no climax of any weight or excitement, embarrassing technical errors, mocks the ship, no decent parts for the guest actors---is somehow superior to some of the next gen movies just because they feature the original 'big 3' having a few nice exchanges that take up about 10 minutes of the movie.

Isn't this little harsh. The God Thing has his reason for disliking TWOK and so does the other one that voted for it(not me).
TWOK has it problems like most other Trek movies but i have admit i find it surprising that there are people voting for it because there lot other Trek films that are awful. I am equally surprised seeing 5 votes for Motion Picture:wtf:
Both those 2 films doesn't deserve a single vote but that life. You cant please everybody..

NEMESIS isn't bad compared to ISHTAR. Juxtaposed against the other TREK films? It blows.
One could also say that Wrath of Khan isn't all that great compared to The Godfather or Citizen Kane or Lawrence of Arabia or hundreds of other films, even though it's the best of the Trek films to date. The pendulum swings both ways.

TGT has expressed as much himself, so CoveTom isn't being harsh. He's just paraphrasing. ;)

Actually, it was far, far WORSE than "that bad". Ugh. :angryrazz:

Disagree. I actually didn't HATE Ishtar. I didn't LOVE it by any stretch, but it had the charm of Beatty and Hoffman, plus I have difficulty hating ANY move with Charles Grodin in it.

NEM had none of that on any level.

Choosing between TFF and Nemesis is really one of those rock / hard place or devil / deep blue sea type things. They're equally dreadful so I can't decide.

Insurrection is only a hair's breadth behind them, though.

I submit Generations for your disproval. The rot set in with this one. Paramount wanted to milk Star Trek, have a film out within months of TNG leaving the airwaves. Bad move creatively. The concept is a waste of potential. It could've been the biggest Star Trek film of all... given a few years distance from All Good Things, more time for the writers to come with a tale that blends TOS and TNG together. Ultimately Next Gen needed to lay fallow for a while, allowing DS9 and VOY to rise and fall. Neither matched the public's love for Picard and crew, so something of an appetite would've built up waiting for that eventual big screen reunion. Then bang, two bites of the silver screen cherry - more of the original cast agree to send TNG off (now the years have passed since VI).

I still cringe at what they put Data through. He lost the charming naivety he had on TV. Soran needed to have a personal connection to Kirk, then his return from the dead and confrontation would've added to the climax. Also Spock and McCoy needed to be in this film at all costs. Christmas in the Nexus was appalling, vomit inducing drivel that would've made time travel the preferable option.

Stretch Yesterday's Enterprise to fill 2 hours and you've basically got my ideal Generations script. Kirk goes out with a bang making a difference, putting the TNG timeline right.

Another Nemesis vote here. So badly executed, it could have been a great film but it missed the mark. Why did everyone love TNG? The characters and their interactions, you don't mess with success. Visual effects don't cover up the lack of proper story. The direction was just odd, they really needed to put Frakes back in charge for this one. He did spectacular work on First Contact and Insurrection. Also they should have gotten more RDM or ISB to be big parts of the writing team.

Nemesis for the lose, sadly we all lose with this one, at least after TFF, the original crew had another movie to do and made up for it. TNG ends with Nemesis, shame on you!

Assuming you mean TFF, it had a clear point of view: why does God need worship--I mean, a starship?

Because neither of those is the worst Trek film. I quite like those two, actually.

It's like having to pick whether you'd rather suffer from amoebic dysentery or dengue fever.

This just came to me. Aren't we choosing what movie is the worst STAR TREK movie. We can see most people who have voted don't like TFF & NEM the most. Understandably but still both these 2 movies are essential Trek movies. Despite being poor, their plot is firmly in the Trek Universe.
However The Voyage Home despite being a good comedy, can easily be labeled as the worst STAR TREK film ever. When released in Europe and South America, the TVH was given the title The Voyage Home: Star Trek IV.
Star Trek name suddenly came secondary and 80% of the plot is firmly stuck in 1980s. TVH has been call many names f.c. comedy, time travel, parody or whale movie before being called a STAR TREK movie. Wasn't this film, also recently selected as one of the best environment movie. It is unlikely you are going to find TVH in the Sci-fi section in your local video store like the other Star Trek films are but rather in the comedy section.

Both have severe, almost-fatal flaws. NEMESIS moreso in the chemistry and interaction departments. At least TFF has great Troika interplay and warm moments.
