Most Underused Secondary?

1 - Dr. M'benga, he seemed to fit right in with the main cast. A great moral dilema episode would've been nice for him :)

Agreed. It's nice, though, that so many characters who we only see a couple times get the full "tip o' the iceberg" treatment.

2 - Lt. Cmdr. Giotto - Just seemed like here was a character with more of a tough guy story to tell! :)

Oh, yeah! Giotto was pretty cool. Kinda "John Wayne"-esque, while still deadly serious and devoted to his job.:techman:

3 - Lt. Riley - He definitely needed another episode, one where he didn't have to sing :p

He didn't sing in "Conscience of the King". But yeah...he was one great character!

Woudn't it be cool if we had Riley and Sulu gettin' drunk and singin' away, like Bashir and O'Brien? Maybe that Disney "Pirates of the Caribbean" song!

"Yo, Ho, YO, HO, a pirates life for me...."

:lol::guffaw::lol::guffaw::lol:

I'd have liked to see that Singh guy a few more times. just 'cos.. you know, I'm Indian and I was kinda surprised to see an Indian crew member in Trek way back in the 60s. I guess they were trying to show diversity anyway, so it'd have been nice if they'd brought him back more often.

BTW, Any of the "Big Seven" (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Sulu, Chekov, Uhura) do NOT count--they're primaries.
Scotty, Sulu, Chekov and Uhura were not primaries, they were just button pushers and easily replaced, when they weren't available for an episode. They are the definition of unimportat secondaries, Chapel had more of a background story than these four combined, at least we know a little bit about her past and why she joined starfleet.

Yep. Scotty, Sulu, Uhura and Chekov are at best secondary characters. Chapel tertiary. The rest reoccuring guest stars ( if they had lines) or extras if they didn't.

Speaking of recurring roles.............

Was the chick that was almost married in Balance of Terror the same as the one that got mowed down in the WWII fighter strafing run in Shore Leave??

I can't remember the character's name. The actress was a cutie though. :)

I'm also sad Rand got the boot so early. Seemed like they could have gone somewhere with that character.

Agreed.

I would have liked to have seen Rand get a bridge position.

***(Please, no blue jokes...) :p

Trouble is, she can't even operate a Transporter without re-creating "The Fly" Vulcan style!

I hardly think the pile of goo in TMP qualifies as a recreation of The Fly! Although, I always wondered if the Cardassian in The Darkness and the Light hung out with Janice during her later years at Starfleet...

Hmmmm.. Good point. Well, we'll just have to keep her out of the Transporter Room. TMP be damned.............

I always wanted to see Mr. Leslie in the movies. Does anyone know if that actor passed away during or before the TOS films got underway, or did he just not want to get involved/wasn't asked?

Eddie Paskey's still very much alive as far as I'm aware. He left the show part way through the third season (for health reasons apparently) and although he did consider auditioning for ST:The Motion Picture, he eventually decided not to.

Rand has my vote, through and through!

BTW...Vonda's Enterprise: First Adventure establishes that Rand DID have a station on the bridge--the Environmental Systems console (which in the show, was usually manned by Mr. Leslie--maybe they alternated by shift?). It wasn't mandatory--the console was automated--but it gave her a place to sit, and report if anything went wrong.

Well...Kirk noted that it wasn't her fault. Remember, Scotty had noted that they already had "a wee problem". Also, Decker and Scotty had thought they'd fixed it...so there's plenty of blame to go around....
