Most Underused Secondary?

Rush Limborg

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Okeydoke.

Of all the "reocurring secondaries" in TOS, which one do YOU think, more than all the others, should've been used more?

BTW, Any of the "Big Seven" (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Sulu, Chekov, Uhura) do NOT count--they're primaries.

I'm thinkin' along the lines of: Rand, Chapel, Mr. Leslie, Dr. Boma, Kyle, Reilly, etc.

Nurse Chapel fit in pretty well with everyone. I wouldn't have minded a bit more of her.

I really would have liked to have seen Riley become a regular. Of course, even with his two appearances, he got better than most.

Would've liked to see more of the security chief, Lt. Cmdr. Giotto, who made just one appearance in Devil in the Dark. I think he might've had an interesting backstory. (And he and Finney had the wrong uniform stripes, too, as they both had full commanders braids, when they should've looked like Scotty's and McCoy's.) Of course, the actor who portrayed him, Barry Russo, got to come back as Commodore Wesley in The Ultimate Computer. -- RR

hmmmmm...good one. There were not that many, to be sure. I would have gone with Boma since he had 'friction' with some of the characters (spock mainly)..the others never really meant much to me...

The show could have used more of Lt. Kyle(John Winston). He had a great personality and definitelty deserved more screentime than he got. He resurfaced years later on the Reliant in TWOK but that was the only time he showed up in the franchise after 1969. I can't for the life of me remember if he voiced his old character in any episodes of TAS.

M'Benga would have worked well as an exo physician/biologist, leaving Bones to contcentrate on the mostly human crew.

Dr. M'BENGA. The concept of him being very African truly showed the diversity of the Enterprise crew.

What about Dr, M'benga?

I personally think that Lt. Kyle or Riley would have made more interesting recurring characters.

I agree about Kyle and Riley, and especially about M'Benga. He appeared in two eps, and was nearly as irascible as McCoy, like when tells Chapel to do whatever Spock tells her, she repeats what he said, and he snaps, "Well, yes! That's clear enough, isn't it?" I also think he's the only other medical officer we saw wearing the McCoy doctor's short-sleeved shirt. (Wonder if there was a version of that shirt for command or operations officers?) -- RR

Agreed ... I think having more than one doctor for the ship would have been better. I also liked Chapel! And, more Leslie would have been cool - it was great to see him (in disguise!) in the animated series!

Mr. Leslie got more exposure than any other secondary save Nurse Chapel. He was even in "WNMHGB" in the pilot uniform.

For me I think I would've loved to have seen more of the following

1 - Dr. M'benga, he seemed to fit right in with the main cast. A great moral dilema episode would've been nice for him :)

2 - Lt. Cmdr. Giotto - Just seemed like here was a character with more of a tough guy story to tell! :)

3 - Lt. Riley - He definitely needed another episode, one where he didn't have to sing :p
