I think their current strategy is to be a massive "clearing house" operation.
Shrewd strategy, leveraging both the scale of their existing logistics operation & the scale of their online footprint.
I think the biggest risk is that if the companies using them as a marketplace have poor products/customer service, then Amazon gets tarred by association. Still, provided they have good vetting systems in place, it should be a very profitable arrangement - they'll take a rake on everything sold through them, for very little work.

Unfortunately, shortly after I posted I had run off for a nordic ski event called the Luminary Loppet. (Actually, I just like to say Loppet).
Since then my evil genius of a puppy has figured out a way to get rid of the cute little bandana they put on him. Next time I'm taking a camera to the groomer's with me to capture that perfectly groomed moment before he gets into something.

I've long since learned that if I want to buy anything, I should check Amazon first. I've bought Halloween costumes, passport covers, and an umbrella from them with no problem.
Went to the outlet mall and bought some shoes for work. Nice, comfy supportive shoes from Clark's.

I just bought a very nice new blazer. Joseph Abboud, in charcoal grey with an almost houndstooth pattern. Plan on wearing it when I take my gf out on Valentine's day. -- RR

Clarks are overpriced for their quality at regular retail (esp. the men's range) but since you got them at an outlet mall, I'm guessing you found yourself a great deal. 3 pairs in one haul is the mark of a dedicated shopper! I like a kindred spirit.

I just bought a few dozen toy dinosaurs and 16 pounds of self-hardening clay. My students are studying dinosaurs and we're visiting the AMNH on Thursday (so much fun!), so I thought we'd make our own fossils! We'll impress our little dinosaurs, some feathers, and shells into the clay, and paint them when they dry. It'll be a great project for the little ones!

I haven't bought much recently. It's my last semester of college and I'm saving money wherever possible. But my friends and I went into San Francisco yesterday, so I did pick up a couple of things. In Japan Town I found a CD I've wanted for a while. Ishikawa Chiaki - "Boku wa Mada Nanimo Shiranai" ("I still know nothing"), and it's great. She has a singing style that is reminiscent of my favorite Japanese band, Garnet Crow, and thankfully a voice that is similarly not too high-pitched. I've listened to the whole thing a number of times now, but I've fallen in love with two songs in particular. I found them on Youtube, in case anyone is interested.

I also picked up two volumes of the reprinted The Onion books at Half-Priced Books. They were actually a little less than half-price each, which is how I could justify buying stuff I can read on the computer for free. But my class schedule is annoying this semester, and I have a number of hour-long breaks that don't give me enough time to walk back to where I live. So I've been doing a lot more reading lately and I'm sick of just reading for my classes.
I also bought a set of poker chips. My friends and I have been playing a bit of poker recently, but all the "chips" we have been using end up being edible (mostly it's left over Halloween candy) so we keep ending games with a lot less currency than we started with.

A cross over ethernet cable, and UCB cable for my printer, some black ink, new running glooves, running head band, and a new short sleeve technical shirt.
