Well, I just finished re-watching the whole series from woah to go!

Lucy of Nine

Commander
Red Shirt
That's right, every free moment I had, I would pop on a dvd and watch a few eps at a time (much to my partner's fury, similar to Kes's in 'Fury'... for some reason I watched it so often that the mere sound of the theme song would make him groan and then make bulkheads in our home explode as he walked past.... luckily I just showed him a hologram of himself in the past telling his future self that it was ok for me to watch the series... ah I'll shut up now...)

Conclusion : Voyager, no matter what the nay-sayers say... or nay say... is brilliant and always will be. Yes, it may not be everyone's kettle of tea, or Janeway's pot of coffee, but for me it will be my favourite ST show.

I have just started rewatching DS9 and have just finished Season 1. Now dont get me wrong, I enjoy a bit of DS9 but it ranks nowhere near VOY for me at all. I just dont love the characters as much.... Voy seems so much warmer than Ds9...

So because I am bored and am on holidays, here's why I love the Voy Characters...

1. Janeway
Ties with Picard for best captain ever in Starfleet. Strong when she needed to be, and a mummy to the crew when they needed her. Maybe its because I am a woman that I enjoyed her softer side. Sure I hated her bun in the first few seasons, but hey, who knew how handy that hairstyle would be in future episodes when they needed to show that something was set back in time... bang! Bring out the old hairstyle and we all knew we were dealing with some nasty time travelling aliens... so God Bless that Bun...

2. Chuckles
Don't care what anyone says... especially Beltran... but I loved me some Chuckles. In fact, best commander in the ST franchise (Sorry Riker, but Chuckles didnt put on anywhere near as much weight as you...). I loved his soft side, and yes, he was underused and he never developed, but I still think he was great character, and his face Tatt rocks. A lovely balance for Janeway (and her bun).

3. B'Elanna
I think I am starting to sound like a broken record, but best Engineer in ST. Lol. But seriously, the things she thought of to get them out of bad situations was a hella lot more ingenious than anyone else ever did... Loved the fact that she beat up her staff in the earlier seasons, and loved how much softer she became without loosing her Klilngon side. Great journey for her throughout the series.

4. Neelix
Neelix is to Guinan is to Quark. Dont know why I said that but just wanted too. Sure, some people aren't Neelix fans, but I have never had a problem with him. When Kes left, he came into his own, and I didn't mind the lightheartedness he brought. I am a closet Neelix fan, shush don't tell anyone.

5. Harry 'Ensign Forever' Kim
Poor Harry. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Still I loved Harry and his eagerness, and we needed that one person on the crew who so desperately wanted to get home, to balance out the rest who seemed to either want to investigate dangerous anamolies all the time... I think his character did develop, not as much as it could have, but he wasn't the baby at the end, that he started off as.

6. Tom 'Insert witty Quip Here' Paris
Best Witty Quip Guy Pilot in Star Trek history... ah how I loved looking forward to those moments of a strained First Contact when he'd turn to the captain and say 'he seems like a friendly fellow' or something equally as witty... ;)
No, but seriously, I loved Tom, and the whole B'Elanna relationship was perfect i thought. Early on he was a great ladies man but not as knobby as Julian, or as full of himself as Riker.... Great journey of personal redemption i thought. If only all the characters got the attention he got with regards to their personal journey... sigh.

7. The Doctor
Brilliant brilliant. The Dr is to Data is to Odo... but so much cooler. Stroke of brilliance using a hologram as a main cast member, much cooler than a robot, or a lump of jelly with an odd face... :) Loved Picardo's acting, he really shone everytime he was on screen. Best Doctor ever... sorry Crusher...

8. Seven of Nine
Obviously, looking at my user name, I am a big Seven fan. She was a brilliant addition to the show, and its sad that her journey near the end was so abruptly taken care of... "oh look now I am in love with Chakotay who saw that coming?". I seriously wouldnt have minded a C7 thing, as long as it had been built up, like Tom and BLT. And I think the show would have benefited if in S7 she had become more human, part of the crew in a uniform, with quarters... it's sad the writers didnt go there, because I think the fans would have liked that. Best Borgified Human Crew Member ever. Lol....

9. Tuvvie
Best Vulcan ever.... lol. Watching the whole series made me realise what wicked lines he was given. Tuvvie had the best sense of humour on Voyager, his one liners were absolutely brilliant. Re-watching the series really made me appreciate his character a lot more. And who didnt tear up when he danced for Neelix... ok, maybe it was just me...

Anyway, just my thoughts, and my humble opinion...

Voyager for me will always be my favourite series!

Ooh I forgot one important character!

10. Borg Baby
What can be said. Best Borg Baby ever in Star Trek.... except that someone put her down and lost her. Dang! Did anyone check behind the couch?

Pfft, DS9 is way warmer than Voyager. It has Garak, the lovable tailor/cold-blooded killer. :) It also featured the attempted-genocide of a major Star Trek race. Surely everyone will agree that DS9 was the warmest Trek.

Nobody? :cardie:

Re: Well, I just finished re-watching the whole series from woah to go

Ha ha.

Ok ok in hindsight, maybe I didnt quite word that how I actually meant....
I was trying to say that I warmed to the characters in Voyager, more than the characters in DS9...

And yes, I forgot Kes. Well, I didnt forget her. I just didnt mention her. :) But if it makes you feel better, then Kes was the best Ocampan on a starfleet starship ever.... (well... she was the only Ocampan on a starfleet starship ever... lol)

I concur. Garak is the man. I like Voyager just fine, but DS9 is the superior show IMO. Especially from season 4 on. That's when it really got good.

Re: Well, I just finished re-watching the whole series from woah to go

I pretty much agree with the list... I've always liked TNG and still think it's either #1 or TIED with VOY as my favorite trek series, but I was never as much of an avid fan of tng as I was with VOY. Voyager was the reason I started recording star trek episodes after school, and probably why I ended up being an engineer... I guess it also has to do with when I started watching Voyager, I related to them being in a foreign place and trying to progress, as to my situation where I had just moved to a new place and was in a completely different environment and culture...

And I thought B'lanna was hot. Though now I would opt for Seven, at the time, I'd take the ridges over the occular implant.

I also loved Naomi Wildman! When her character first was introduced, with her asking Neelix to check her bed for monsters! She was so adorable!!!!

Re: Well, I just finished re-watching the whole series from woah to go

I have all seven DVD's of Voyager, I have yet to go through all 176 episodes, I may never get to all of them, I find myself watching a few episodes over and over again (must have space sickness) Anyone, who can sit through Threshold has my total respect and my total sympathy :)
Part of the problem is that I also have all DS-9 DVD's also, so I divide my trek time between them both. In any case watching all the episodes of Voyager in order is in the words of my favorite Vulcan "Impressive"...

10. Borg Baby
What can be said. Best Borg Baby ever in Star Trek.... except that someone put her down and lost her. Dang! Did anyone check behind the couch?

They didn't lose her. She became a valuable member of The Shuttles and Torpedoes Building Team which was led by Lt.Carey and included crewmembers like Dalby, Henley, Chell, Gerron, Rollins and later on also included Vorik, Samantha Wildman and The Borg Baby.

Due to their hard work with building new shuttles and torpedoes, they were very busy and seldom seen but they are the true heroes of Voyager. ;)

As for Kes, I find her one of Star Trek's best characters.

As for the others, they are simply great all of them, well Seven isn't exactly my favorite but nowdays I can accept her and I can understand that many fans like her.

Re: Well, I just finished re-watching the whole series from woah to go

^Who led the team after Carey died?!

I vote Chell.

Re: Well, I just finished re-watching the whole series from woah to go

Didn't Chakotay and Harry work down there part-time?

I'm not so sure about that. Maybe Rollins, he was a liutenant, wasn't he? Or maybe Dalby who seem to be something of a leader.

Or maybe the Borg baby?

Re: Well, I just finished re-watching the whole series from woah to go

Lucy thanks for your great list! I adore VOY and it's great to read a list of VOY adorations, lol.

I've always said DS9 is my favorite Trek for the story lines and VOY is my favorite Trek for the characters.

7 of 9 is my all time favorite Trek character.

I love the humor in VOY, the doctor is priceless! I'm also a huge Harry fan, I think he could have been a great character. He does get some limelight, not totally neglected.

And Kathryn Janeway.. well she's my hero. I admire her greatly. I think she is very similar to Kirk in her lateral thinking and fantastic instincts that she is not afraid to run with. A truly dynamic leader.

You're all wrong. It was Baxter. After his arms exploded after spending most of the first season in the ship's gym, he wandered off some time during Twisted and took command of the ragamuffin crew of little people. Over time, he reconstructed both arms out of photon torpedo casings and shuttle components, rendering him virtually indestructible.

True story. I'm surprised nobody remembered this :p

4. Neelix

I award you 10 points for being a Neelix fan. The producers and writers didn't do a great job with him, but his back story is amazing and Mortal Coil is my favorite VOY episode.

Re: Well, I just finished re-watching the whole series from woah to go

Yes, Mortal Coil was brilliant and showed Ethan's acting ability, what a great episode. Although after anyone else died after that episode I always wondered why they didnt use the "magical borg nanoprobes of goodness" to bring them back to life too?

Re: Well, I just finished re-watching the whole series from woah to go

Ok. Finally finished re-watching the series too.

Last episodes were pretty good. Though I wish the chakotay-seven love storyline would've been more gradual, I can still buy it...

Really, I love Voyager. I never could get into DS9, and though I've sat through a few episodes, it never captivated me like Voyager did. I mean, TIMELESS?! Muse? Shattered? Such great episodes! Though I do agree with Robert Beltran about how Voyager would substitute techno-babble for story, still... it had it's shining moments. And the crew! oh the crew...

Voyager FTW!

Re: Well, I just finished re-watching the whole series from woah to go

Yay Cyph! Its rare to find someone on these boards (except all us Voy diehards) who thinks like me! Voyager and the crew just capture your heart.
I enjoyed DS9 but nowhere near as much as Voy. I havent seen TNG for ages, so I'm trying to track down a decent priced complete box set, and I know I will love that too... but there's something about Voyager which I just love love love...
