Forgotten Trek

the holocommunicators were ditched from a production POV because it was deemed confusing for viewers.

from an in-universe stand-point, it probably proved unworkable over time due to lag issues, even with warp 9.9999 boosted sub-space messages, or something.

Sela. She was a big presence during the beginning of TNG season 5, and then she just disappeared.

She botched things up big time in her 2 command opportunities. I don't think any military, let alone the Romulan military brass, would be too forgiving of those missteps. Maybe they put her in charge of a work detail on Remus.:rommie:

The Federation's obtaining a Romulan cloaking device.
The Warp 5 "speed limit"

I think Gene Roddenberry, himself, nixed using it in any future Trek projects. This may be apocryphal, but, I've heard the quote, "The Federation doesn't sneak around.", attributed to GR.

Warp 5 speed limit? Maybe Sammy Hagar revoked that. "I can't fly Warp 5!"

I think it was also expensive or something.

Wasn't it used again in Nemesis, though, with Shinzon (although I think that was a transmission from the Scimitar).

To Kriton, Who is Red Foreman  the part of Annorax was played by Kurtwood Smith
his wife was played by Lise Simms in an Uncredited role, and I'm not sure if they even had kids, espically in Wisconsin???

Yeah, welcome to 2009! I did a Kurtwood Smith appreciation thread in SF&F or GTV&M a few months back. Look it up if you like...he was also Clarence Boddiker AND the Federation President (ST VI)! :)

If you don't know the answer to that then you need a foot up your ass!

The ability to go faster than Warp 10. Sure, it turns you into a salamander, but your holographic EMH can fix that little problem. Everyone in Starfleet should be using Salamander Drive!

Starfleet meets the Ferengi and the Borg in the 22nd C, yet forget to put those encounters in their mission reports so that future encounters with the same species come as a total surprise, despite some pretty obvious unique identifying qualities for each that should have tipped someone off.

Dr. Bashir's ketracel-white cure, which was destroyed but could be re-created if he worked at it. Starfleet couldn't think of interesting strategic uses for a serum that possibly would sever the loyalty of enemy troops to their leaders? No wonder they lost the war (even tho we let them think they won. Suckers.)

Vorta telekinetic powers. Damn, I want that!

The great, uber-famous Jonathan Archer, who nobody in the 23rd and 24th Centuries sees fit to mention.

That reminds me...remember the TNG episode where it was shown that using Warp drive power actually DAMAGED space?

Never went back to revisit that one, though they really should have.

they revisited (that's why VOYAGER has articulating nacelles), but they didn't really DEAL with it, they just teched their way out, which is seriously shameful. They could have done a preemptive INCONVENIENT TRUTH with that warp is bad for space thing (or something I pitched they didn't want, the 'replication is bad for space-time'), but didn't have the guts.

I don't think that Roddenberry was still alive when they came up with that episode where they had to impose a Warp 5 speed limit. I think that the quote had to do with why Starfleet doesn't use cloaking devices.

Yes. A page ago. :p

the shape of the galaxy and distance. Voyager is the series that most could have shown this, but they didn't! Our galaxy has spiral arms with lightly populated space between them and and stary densy core with a super-massive black hole in the center. Instead, were's shown a galaxy that appears to be a globular cluser, uniformly populated.

Also if they had been thinking. species that were first encountered in TOS could have been members of the frederation (and crew) in later series. (Instead, new species were invented for later series like: the Bolians, Cardasians, and Beta Z's) As the federation expanded it would encounter new species that were too far away to have been in TOS or Enterprise.
(goes without saying the the Ferengi and Borg should NEVER have been on Enterprise!)
