Forgotten Trek

Gotham Central

Vice Admiral
Admiral
With 40 years of storytelling (6 TV series and 11 movies) some elements of the ESTABLISHED on screen universe disappeard (either overshadowed by real world developments or were quietly deemed unworkable.

Things such as...

The Galactic Barrier,
Warp 11,12, 13...
Transwarp Drive
Parasitic Trill
Time Travel for "research"
women being "oddities" on starship bridges
VERY human androids
pre-changling shapeshifters
command codes
holographic communications

etc

Can anyone think of any others?

Can anyone think of other

Guardian of Forever: Awesome opportunity for study of history, and never heard of it again.

The Federation's obtaining a Romulan cloaking device.
The Warp 5 "speed limit"

The Organian Peace Treaty. Didn't really stop the Klingons and Feds from fighting like it said it would.

How are command-codes unworkable? They used the idea twice as I recall past TWOK and mentioned them a couple of times in dialog. Maybe not as "command code" directly but as personal codes, remote commands, passwords things of that nature.

The Organian Peace Treaty. Didn't really stop the Klingons and Feds from fighting like it said it would.

The novelization of Star Trek VI has a section where the characters mention that the Organians had disappeared. This was the initial reason for the uptick in diplomacy between the Federation and Klingons.

Its too bad that none of this was mentiioned on screen.

The Alpha and Gamma Jem'Hadar that were brought up in One Little Ship. We never heard any mention of them again.

The Federation's obtaining a Romulan cloaking device.
The Warp 5 "speed limit"

Ironically eneough, the production staff actually did "address" the warp 5 limit when they created Voyager. That was the whole point of the pivoting warp nacells (which were themselves a dropped concept). I've always wondered why they never mentioned that onscreen.

Of course, they probably made the conscious decision to just ignore the whole thing.

I wish they had. It would have really added realism to Starfleet's sudden hawkishness in that movie.

They probably filed it wherever they put the Maquis/Federation and the dealing with limited resources plots.

For me, it's the third Enterprise, NCC-1701-B. Never knew what became of that ship after Generations.

Was its maiden voyage so bad that Starfleet said "Screw it. We're going straight to the Enterprise-C?"

Sela. She was a big presence during the beginning of TNG season 5, and then she just disappeared.

Using LaForge's visor as a video link to the ship.

What became of the Sigma Iotians and the lost transtator?

All the "supergods" (from Charlie X's adopted family to Trelane to Apollo to Parmen and company to the Organians et.al.). The only one(s) I can think of who bothered with humans on a repeat basis were the members of The Q we met. And most of THEM thought of us as ants, basically (probably a not-entirelly-underserved concept).

I'm glad they followed up on Captain Braxton with "Relativity" on VOY and still think (with some real development) that the idea of a 29th-C timeship series could work, though probably not in B&B's hands.

Annorax's Time Ship, this may have been the most advanced ship seen in Trek, inside the ship you never grow old, enemies cannot penerate your temporal shield, you can elimate entire species in a few minutes, and bring them back again at you will. What else could a megolmaniac want or need...

But it ... never actually happened after the VOY ramming, right? Red Foreman was back in his original timeline with his wife and his dumbass son driving the Vista Cruiser in Wisconsin, right?

Some of these simply haven't been shown on screen because there has been little or no 24thC Trek since Voyager.

I don't know what you mean by a few others. "Very" human androids? Data and co are about as sophisticated as we've seen. There were a few androids in TOS that seemed to be a bit more "emotional", but they were all clearly inferior in most respects to a Soong android, incapable of advanced learning for instance. A lot of the novels talk about this. Shapeshifters other than the Changelings haven't been forgotten, but it was established in TNG that they are very uncommon judgeing by the crew's reactions to one. Besides, how would you know if you saw one? ;)

Command codes have been used in every series, don't know what you mean there. Holographic communicators are a pretty good example, we never saw them beyond a couple of DS9 episodes. The Warp scale was recalibrated, not forgotten about. But I guess it wasn't mentioned onscreen maybe?
