NBA Discussion - 2008-2009 Season

Yeah, but pretty much anything is going to be an improvement over Isiah Thomas. That guy made the Knicks a mess. But I like D'Antoni. And the NBA is better when the Knicks are good. So I wish them the best.

I'd just rather see Lebron in Detroit...

Paul Allen will whip out his checkbook, Phil Knight will conjure up a huge Nike contract and LeBron will be a TrailBlazer before you know it. :D

Lebron will end up in a big market town (Portland ain't it), and one of his Team USA buddies will go with him.

they were up 6 with a pair of minutes to go
Then they were down 1
They took a shot with about 20 seconds left on the clock
Missed
Then they fouled, but since they had one left, Phx took the ball out
And then they couldn't foul again and Phoenix just ran out the clock on them!

I bet the Mavericks are kicking themselves for trading away Devin Harris now. He's putting up crazy numbers in New Jersey.

We're into December now, the Blazers are on a five game winning streak and still tied for first in their division at 13-6. Woohoo!

How about those Christmas Day games? I was initially elated when Grant Hill converted the layup to put the Suns ahead of the Spurs with 4 seconds left, but then my heart sank as I realized that the Suns would have to play effective defense for 4 seconds to actually win the game. Sure, Roger Mason hit a great shot, but the Suns couldn't have stopped Greg Ostertag in full scuba gear. In fact, I have a theory that the Phoenix Suns playing active defense actually makes the opposing team more likely to score, especially if that team is the San Antonio Spurs.

how do you feel the Shaq experiemt is going in Phoenix? He can't really play the uptempo game the Suns have employed before, but he still strikes me as a warrior underneath.

Here's how I feel about that: before the trade for Shaq, the Suns were an entertaining team, but not championship material. After the trade for Shaq, the Suns are no longer an entertaining team, and are still not championship material. I understand why Steve Kerr made the deal, but he traded a younger, versatile player with a bit of an ego problem for an older player with a limited skill set an a much larger ego problem. Come playoff time, Shaq will be tired out from the long regular season and he won't be able to produce. Not that it'll matter, Phoenix simply doesn't have the personnel to compete with the Lakers or Hornets, and the Spurs are so deep inside their heads that Greg Popovich could play Tim Duncan and four male figure skaters and the Suns would still find a way to lose.

The Christmas day win over the Celts was one of the biggest regular season wins in Lakers history. It showed that this team can compete with the C's. This definitely was not true last season. But with the addition of Andrew Bynum and Treavor Ariza, coupled with the Celts loss of James Posey and P.J. Brown, levels the playing field between the two. Now we'll have to see about where we are versus Cleveland.

The Shaq experiment in Phoenix has been a complete failure so far. They no longer have an offensive identity and in the last two seasons have traded away their two best defensive players. Shaq has always been an underacheiver on defense and that was in the best of times, now he just plain sucks. Grant Hill was once a good, to great defender fundamentally, but is now too old. Nash has never been even a good defender. The Suns window of opportunity with this team is firmly closed. Steve Kerr might as well blow this team up for young guys, finish in the lottery a couple of years and start over.

Great win tonight by the Pistons. They may not have the best record in the league, but they've downed all the top teams in the league except the Celtics.

Wow. The Celtics lost to the Knicks, and the Cavs lost to the Wizards. Just like that the Lakers have the best record. I thought the C's had a chance at breaking the regular season record for wins, but not anymore.

The Blazers are really missing Brandon Roy. They're 0-3 since he injured his hamstring. The rest of the team needs to suck it up and play around his absence.

DAMN!!! Andrew Bynum just went down with a knee injury in the Lakers game in Memphis. Hope it is not ligaments.
