fact of the matter is the future Roddenberry universe was so positive and was such a place of hope because of diversity (whether or not Gene practiced it himself--the philosophy is no less valid).

one of the things i find so amazing about trek conventions is they are about inclusion. many pot-shots can be taken at the fans seen at conventions, but, for at least one day, everyone can feel like they belong. this is what trek has been so progressive about--teaching us values and, indeed, the value of people different from ourselves.

if that isn't something someone would want their family to experience, it might be useful to examine how values currently held measure up to the future as portrayed by trek.

I kept waiting for the love interest soft focus shot on Peter Kirk, and the swelling (pun intended) love theme. What'd I get? An eyesore jumpsuit.

Wellll... you can't quite blame the Phase II crew for slavish attention to detail--those jumpsuits are authentic Phase II designs. Doesn't make 'em any less cringe-inducing

btw, one other kudo I wanted to give--the visual F/X in this episode are nothing short of phenomenal. The visuals of the Lear/Iago star system are wonderfully done, and the Enterprise herself has never looked better, battle damage notwithstanding.

Well, I gotta say this played better on my second viewing. I liked the flow better this time around. I thing the scenes aboard the other starship are really well done-for me the best part of the show. The cliffhanger was also well done-they really created the feeling that the characters are in genuine danger.

I just wish these CG artists would dare to portray stars as what they are: very bright light sources. It would be cool to see the dark silhouette of a starship against the blinding light of a nearby sun... like some of the shots in Sunshine.

This was an excellent episode.

I’ve seen the rough cut of part II of this show - it’s just as good if not better. “World Enough And Time” remains my favorite STNV show so far, but that’s a matter of personal preference - the whole production continues to improve from show to show.

This last paragraph from the review is a pretty good encapsulation of the entire review. So I think saying that "TrekMovie didn't give it a good review" might be a bit wide of the mark.

Or perhaps we simply misunderstood you and by "not a good review," you mean that the review itself was poorly written or not insightful or not informative or reliable.

That'd be nice. I'm tired of seeing stars portrayed as mottled spheres that look like 25 watt bulbs with brightly lit spaceships in front of them. It's neither interesting not dramatic.

I was kind of reminded of the Mario Bros. outfits. Now there's some slash fiction that has yet to be explored.
