The Experience is back!!

Any word on if Borg Invasion will return? I never got to see it, and the Queen is my goddess. :)

I just found this link, I hope it works (first time I posted a link), which states that on Dec 12 2008 new information should be out about what else is going in at Neonopolis. Apparently Jillians will be moving out and a newer upscale resteraunt to take its place. Check out the link.

(sorry if there any spelling errors)

I just read that link above - THANKS!!!!

So it's OFFICIAL!!!!!!!!!!!

AWESOME - I visited the attraction in '01 but before the Borg thing was added. It will be nice to revisit when I go on 2012 and be able to do ST again.

If I read between the lines correctly and knowing some of the people involved, it seems likely that the Borg Invasion will be in there before The revamped Klingon Encounter. It's simply much easier to install and the tech is still fairly state-of-the-art. Having that as one of the theatres also allows for more flexibility should they want to change that particular adventure. For instance, with some new set dressing (a la re-using unit sets for different locations in TV and movie shoots) and a new movie, it could be easily transformed into an Abrams-verse Trek scenario should that movie become as popular as hoped for. Or it could become a new adventure set in any part of the existing ST universe.

I sincerely hope they do this right. It sounds like those involved with The Next Experience realize they have to treat it like a locals spot as well as a tourist destination. Certainly an area of much debate in its previous incarnation.

Thanks for the updates Biggshow. I know I'm keeping a close eye on this thread and for your "insider" input in particular.

I'll be planning my next trip to Vegas around the grand re-opening for sure. :techman:

Another minor update. A friend who is very much in touch with the current installation team says that anything that could be easily removed from the Experience is already moved. She also says that all the contact info for the former employees have been given to the new management (which consists of several former STTE management) and many are just waiting for the call. Still no word on a firm opening date.

On a side note, former bartenders Darren and Jeef have their own segment on The Ugly Couch Show (www.uglycouchshow.com) called the Away Team and they have promised to give updates on the opening as they get word.

It appears that Chad Boutte (Operations Manager) has moved back to New Orleans and will not return for STTE-A

Someone moved to New Orleans? (too soon?)

So Darren has joined TUCS... cool. Of all the employees who didn't wear foam latex, he was my favorite, the surly bastard!

When the new place has been open for a bit, I plan to make a trek just to see her. I was at the original back in 1998, first year of operations. I don't travel though. Period. Nada. Zip. Zilch. So for me to travel now? That's pretty important. ;)

Stoked... plan on making it a weekly adventure, now instead of a once in a while deal. Much easier to simply take 95 and get off at LV Blvd. and jump back on it when I want to go home than it is to take 95 to 15 to Sahara, struggle on Sahara and then go to Paradise.

Do you want to know what the irony is: I'm only hearing about this here from you guys and I live here! Thanks for the research and the links.

Now, we just need damned date. :)

It has been rumored on other boards that this would be a much smaller version of STTE than the previous incarnation. Still, either way, it would be cool to go see it.
Apparently you've never been to Neonopolis. Don't feel bad, nobody else has either. ;)

Needless to say, it's a really big facility that has been 90% vacant since I moved her 5 years ago.

Before all this came down, my wife and I planned a trip to Vegas in mid-February. That's probably too soon, but I'm glad the Experience will be back. We went 3 times during its run at the Hilton, and always had a good time.

I am VERY excited about this, and I hope it works out for them financially so it can stay put for a good long while.

SO here's the question should we refer this as The Next Experience or TNE or STTE-A Something to ponder for a bit....

I've been calling the Las Vegas Hilton version Star Trek The Original Experience or STTOE. That way I remain free to refer to the new location as STTE. This is in line with there being an original series called Star Trek, referred to as TOS, and the new movie bearing the same title.

Still, there is something to be said for STTE-A since it is a replacement for a glorious old vessel which has been destroyed. :techman:

Haha, I remember walking/driving past Neonopolis several times, but never went in. Now when this opens I'll prolly be there every weekend with my bro! :D

Totally subscribing to this thread..

Is it me, or does it sound like a couple very rich trekkies are backing this...

I mean, the guy who owns the joint said it himself, that it's odd to be expanding like this in a downturn economy, but "he has the backers to pay for it" and permission from CBS...

No conspiracy, that's Vegas for ya...

Wynn opens 2000 room casino resort.

More minor news: apparently, the owner of Neonopolis would like to get more investors behind this before he begins the re-install. That is what is causing the delay. So it does look like the economic downturn is affecting the rebuild of the Experience. They would like to have the bar and restaurant opened by the convention in Aug. so we'll see.

Personally, I'm stoked to hear about this. I never had a chance to check out the original Experience.
