Cast the Characters of Trek Literature

Ranul Keru- Colin Cunningham
Nowhere near big or hairy enough.

Nan Bacco- Mary McDonnel
Decades too young.

Christine Vale- Billie Piper
Too young.

T'Ryssa Chen- Morena Baccarin
Not even in the ballpark.

Miranda Kadohata- Tamilyn Tomita
I can actually see that one working, though the consensus is Stephanie Jacobsen.

Renna Konya- Chuck Campbell
You mean the technician guy from Atlantis? Hmm, in the ballpark physically, but a little bland.

I could see an older Morena Baccarin as Jasminder Choudhury. She's actually entirely too young -- Choudhury is in her early 40s, IIRC. But she has that sense of inner calm and matronliness that I tend to associate with Choudhury.

She's also not South Asian.

I've got a few for the Destiny trilogy:

Major Foyle - Mark Harmon (NCIS)

Veronica Fletcher - Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck)

Inyx - voice of Laurence Fishburne

And finally...

Sedin - voice of Alice Krige

Considering Sedin's role in the creation of the Borg and how the Queen resembles the physical description of the Caeliar, it made perfect sense.

Well, yeah, that too, obviously. I tend to mentally cast characters more in terms of personalities than physicalities, though.

Hmmm, I think I might like those. Especially the last one, although IMHO that's pretty much automatic.

Yeah, but you can fudge relative heights on camera. With the exception of one brief shot, you can't tell throughout watching Thelma and Louise that Geena Davis is a foot taller than Susan Sarandon. For that matter, a decade's worth of X-Files episodes did a wonderful job of obfuscating the nine-inch height difference between David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, and after watching four seasons of Farscape episodes (plus a miniseries, plus a couple of SG1 seasons), you'd never know that Ben Browder is more than half a foot taller than Claudia Black. (IMDB lists Black's height as 5'7", which is horseshit. At best, she's 5'5".)

She's also only 5' 7.5" to Michael Dorn's 6' 4". Not quite the near-equal to Worf described in the books.
Where did it say she was nearly his equal in height? That was never my intention for the character. Did Christopher establish that?

Here's what Christopher wrote on pp. 91-92 of Greater Than the Sum:
"Lieutentant." Unlike many humanoid women, her eyes fell at a comfortable height for him to meet. She was nearly as tall as Jadzia had been... as K'Ehleyr had been.
So, "near-equal" may be a slight exaggeration, but I imagine her much closer to the six-foot mark.

^ I guess we'll have to chalk that up to yet another communication breakdown. I had never intended for her character to be that tall, and I must have missed that description of her in GTtS. (Even though Christopher's book was published first, and set many of the details about her character, Choudhury was originally conceived for the Destiny trilogy.)

I missed that part, too; I always pictured her as being kind of short.

There's still time for me to take all the references in Losing the Peace to her knocking her head on the top of the doorframe everytime she enters a room, if you really want me to...

Terry Farrell is six feet tall, Suzie Plakson is six feet, one and a half inches. My intention was for Choudhury to be 5'10"-5'11", "nearly as tall" as Jadzia and K'ehleyr. Although it's possible she could be more like 5'8"-5'9" and just seem taller because of the way she carries herself.

Is Oliana Mirren from the Aventine the same character who lost out on the Academy exam along with Wesley in "Coming of Age" (TNG)?

Apparently, yes. Though to be honest, I forgot that while writing the trilogy, so the descriptions of her might be a bit off.

I'd completely forgotten it too, until I went to Memory Alpha's page on the episode and was like "waaaaiiiit a minute..."

Just to clarify, was she fatally fried in Mere Mortals?
