This is the same crap I had to sift through when they talked Trek XI casting. Just because you haven't heard of someone doesn't mean they're not a star. Maybe you just don't have a broad enough range of film knowledge? Carlyle will get non-sci-fi people tuning into the pilot just like Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, John Cho and Zach Quinto will get people into the theater next May.
You're honestly putting Carlyle at the end of that list?![]()
Like I said it's comparing nobodys to nobodys. It's not like it really matters. If I were to choose based solely on my own personal opinion and who I know, Carlyle wouldn't be on any list at all. As I've NEVER EVER heard of him prior to today. The two movies he's been in that I've seen (Eragon and 28 Weeks Later) his role in them either wasn't important enough or the movies themselves weren't good enough that I cared to find out who he was.
Things would be different if a real star was cast in the show, ya know, somebody who's name alone can get people in theaters or in front of a TV screen.
I have access to IMDB, and that tells me that Picardo and Bridges are considerably more renown than he. My last post, said that if I listed him based on personal ideas he wouldn't be on a list. However, I did place him on a list based on what he's been in. His resume shows me nothing of notability -- at least not more than Bridges and Picardo -- who, don't get me wrong, also have nothing really worth mentioning. But their piddly roles in things are bigger and more numerous than his.
He's not playing the lead, he's playing a character called Dr Rush I think they have got this a bit wrong. i hope he is in the cast permenantly and not like Robert Patrick was cast as a one off character who dies in the premiere.

From the description he sounds like the evil Doctor in "Lost in Space"
From the descriptions of Dr. Rush over on Gateworld, having this casting, if the character is half of the voice I'm hearing, he'll be great. Malozzi refers to the character as "going to be a handful." And from the early word at Gateworld, it sounds like Rush isn't going the way of Sumner. I'm getting a distinct feeling of a throwback to the old McKay, mixed with a little Dr. Smith from Lost in Space for good measure. If I'm right, Carlyle could have a blast with this.

I don't see the connection, he's not a stowaway and he thinks he's in charge and I see any evidence of him trying to sabotage the mission.
Oh god, do we REALLY need another whining, arrogant, self obsessed, obnoxious geek character? McKay drove me crazy in the first few years till the writer's finally realised that they fucked up, making him so aggressive like that.

Now who's taking things too literally? Robert Carlyle couldn't play a whiney character if he tried, he's too forceful of an actor for that.Oh god, do we REALLY need another whining, arrogant, self obsessed, obnoxious geek character? What does 'he's too foreceful of an actor for that' mean? And I used five words to describe the character, why latch onto just one?
If the character called for is a whining, loud-mouthed, arrogant, obnoxious geek... he'll play a whining, loud-mouthed, arrogant, obnoxious geek.
The character did not appear in the original casting calls, which led us to believe that the team that finds itself stranded on the Ancient ship would be led by military Colonel Everett Young.
As they fight to survive, Dr. Rush (Carlyle) works to unlock the mysteries of the ship and return the group home, but evidence of his ulterior motives soon arises.

I thought they were going to give the Stargate franchise a break after Atlantis finishes its run?
Yeah right! They'd run three series at the same time if they could
I think Richard Dean Anderson might give him a run in the popularity stakes![]()
I'd venture to say RDA, Beau Bridges, and Robert Picardo all beat him in popularity.
To us geeks maybe, but to the average person on the street who might not have ever watched stargate or voyager, they might find him more familiar than the guy from a show that was 20 years ago, the guy who used to be in films with his more famous brother 20 years ago, and the guy who looks different in every movie he's in and never played a leading role, and most of those films were 20 years ago.
Considering the target age of the audience is people in their 20s...
No, that'll happen at the start of season 2..Spectacular choice.
I look forward to seeing him on the show... that is, until Season 5 when they inexplicably kill him off to "up" the dramatic stakes.
