If this has already been posted, my bad. If not, here goes folks.

An unexpected but not unwelcomed choice.

That's huge! He's probably the best known actor ever cast in a regular role on a Stargate show.

I've always thought he was kind of creepy.

Bzzzzt! You used the 'c' word. Go directly to jail, do not collect £200.

More "C" words where that came from.

Most of which aren't as over used as the one you just used. :p

Well, he creeps me out. Therefore, he is creepy.

It's okay to overuse a word if it's the right word to use.

Wow! What a choice! This raises my expectations for this series quite significantly.

I think he's a fantastic actor but I don't know how well he'd do in a Stargate series and to be honest it seems so unlikely to me that I question the validity of this information.

Well so far the news has shown up on Aint It Cool and originated from the Hollywood Reporter. I think I've also seen it on Superhero Hype and those sources are usually pretty good for accuracy.

    Still you never know...

^ The thing is, there's articles on the web that even have him down as being the next Doctor Who. He's even been quoted as saying that he would love to be the next Doctor Who and apparently he's been in talks. So, ya know..... he can't exactly do both.

Strange choice, as if they wanted any famous actor, regardless of look or suitability for the part.

This is fantastic news, I hope he gets to use his natural Scottish accent.

Maybe Carlyle is suitable for the part in their eyes?

Robert Carlyle. A few of his works that I recall myself:

    The Full Monty
    The World Is Not Enough
    24: Redemption

Carlyle seems to have a good reputation as an actor, though I have no idea how easy he is to work with.

I've only seen him in 24 and Bond. Liked him in 24, looking forward to it!

I think Richard Dean Anderson might give him a run in the popularity stakes :)

Although I can't see him and not think of Francis Begbie...

Not really that big of fan of him as I've only ever seen him in the TV series Hamish McBeth which I didn't actually follow that much. Probably the one good thing though is the fact that he's Scottish and here's hoping he plays one, (no offense to the guy who played Beckett as he did do a good Scots accent though but it's nice to see an actual Scottish guy get a part).
