So, how and why did this episode get a Hugo Award nomination? Was it some kind of joke nomination to mock ENT? Or do that many people really have such a bad taste? I mean if you really want to nominate a Season 2 episode from ENT for the Hugo Award take something like "Cogenitor". Or at least "Dead Stop". Or "Regeneration".

The Hugo Award nomination of "A Night in Sickbay" clearly deserves further investigations to find out who was responsible and to bring whose who are responsible to justice. ;) (Alright, the same could be said about the writers of this episode... *looks it up* ah, B&B... not much surprise here).

Wasn't Carbon Creek nominated as well? Truly puzzling. I sorta liked CC, but ANIS was one of those typical Trek trainwreck episodes that comes along every now and then.

Just checked- Conversations With Dead People (Buffy) won, with Waiting In The Wings (Angel), Serenity (Firefly) and Carbon Creek were all nominated with A Night In Sickbay.

I missed ANIS when it was first broadcast. I didn't see it until I got the DVDs. I was prepared for the worst, and while it isn't the finest episode of Enterprise, it isn't half as bad as it has been made out to be. It's actually an interesting character study of Archer.

Hugo? I don't know about that. But compared to "Vanishing Point", it's a peach.

Yes, it reveals fascinating truths about his character, like...he wants to rail his first officer.

:o

The Hugo Award nominees and winners are chosen each year at Worldcon (the World Science Fiction Convention) by the members of the World Science Fiction Society, an unincorporated literary society of over 5000 members.

From the official site: "There is no submission process for the Hugo Award....The Hugo voters are good at finding and nominating good works, and do talk among themselves, so word spreads."

What a day! Not only do I find out that there are non bashers who actually like TATV, I also find out that ANIS is an acclaimed episode. My inner child just got raped and died in pain...:(

So apparently the Hugo people have no taste. I'll be sure to keep that in mind the next time I see something has won an award from them.

yes, starting from City on the Edge of Forever, they showed a pure lack of any taste whatsoever!

First, that episode is not all that great, I've seen it. Second, there's only a 30 year gap there, so it's not at all like the people behind it could have changed in that amount of time.

Indranee, touche.

I liked ANIS as well. I thought it was an interesting character piece and went (truly) where no captain had gone before.

"ANiS" has three and only three redeeming qualities.

1)The chemistry between Bakula and Billingsley.

2)It's not "Precious Cargo."

3)It's not "TATV."

I liked it when it aired and still like it. It's miles better than Precious Cargo, Bounty, and Vanishing Point just to name three episodes from the same season. It helps show Archer's humanity and is an interesting character study at that.

ANiS is only better than TATV, and that's only because it doesn't completely assisinate all the characters, it just assisinates Archer's credibility.
