Carrie Fisher wishes she turned down Star Wars.

She looked pretty good on that recent Fox reality series where people directed their own films and all that.

Not sure what happened since then.

As for money and Star Wars, I think I read somewhere the actors got some points or something like that from Lucas after it turned out to be so successful.

The actual "start of filming dates" of the movies are as follows,

"Star Wars" - March 22nd 1976

"The Empire Strikes Back" - March 5th 1979

"Return of The Jedi" - Jan. 11 1982

The above poster may be referring to "start of production" dates, which, if you don't define it correctly could even go back to the very early 1970's for Ep IV, since Lucas began writing earlier that decade.

If a film comes out in the(Northern)summer of a particular year, you can almost guarantee it was filmed the year before. Studios would not stand for a film being shot(live action)in, say, 2008 and not being released until 2010. That is simply way too much money tied up for two or more years. Not saying it hasn't happened but it is rare and is usually indicative of a major fuck up or huge lack of confidence.

That being said, the live action footage of the SW films were shot the preceeding year of their release.

Well the point of the matter is that many people make choices they wish they hadn't taken earlier in life.

I don't necessarily see Ms. Fisher as being any different. We know that Alec Guiness wasn't overly happy with Star Wars either.

I'm about as cynical as they are, when it comes to celebrities expressing their "woes" ... and I regret that to a certain extent. While some truly are just being publicity hounds, others I suspect are simply in genuine remorse. Maybe it's that regret that is coloring my perception here, but I judt don't feel the cynicism here in what Ms. Fisher is saying. She comes off as merely trying to reveal what she feels are poor choices in her past. For that matter, maybe she's hoping to keep some young star from making the same mistakes.

in any case, I wish her the best in dealing with her personal demons.

I wish everyone had turned down Star Wars.

An entire generation was warped by that movie series.

If it wasn't for Star Wars, you guys would be worshipping at the feet of Dino De Laurentis and Sam J. Jones for Flash Gordon as the heir apparent to the throne which Mark Hamill is most famous for.

And, Indiana Jones would have been portrayed by Tom Selleck.
Indiana Jones might not even be if not for Star Wars and ILM.

the special EFX in way over half the films made in the US wouldn't be without Star Wars and that includes all the Trek shows and films this board was created to talk about.

Celebrities are funny: I never know which side of their mouth they are talking from. But the essence of the article, which I think people are missing, is her reflecting on past choices she's made, the outcome of those choices, and what she would do differently. I didn't really read it as her blaming anyone/thing or bitching.

it's like that star trek episode where picard wishes he had done something different in his youth and BAM! now we get ensign picard...

i imagine fisher would have the same kind of change in her life... she could be a nobody, nothing more than a footnote on a wiki page about her parents...

of course if she wishes she had never done star wars, she could simply never talk about it or associate with it again...

BUT... maybe she really meant she wishes she turned down Star Wars: The Holiday Special... and i think we can all agree would have been a solid move.

Ornella Muti....

Yeah.

You have to admire the guts of a woman who wears literally half a dress, and no underwear, on screen, in her first scene in a movie.

And, yes, when I was younger, I stop-mo'ed the VHS tape of "Flash Gordon" to be sure, and when the DVD came out...

Well, Yeah. It was rather obvious. ;)

IIRC the actors were under contract to do it for some reason, so they couldn't turn it town. One of the many, many reasons it was so bad - they just didn't give a crap. Fisher was obviously stoned during the entire filming of the thing.

"Postcards from the Edge" is a GREAT film. Very funny. I haven't read any of her books, but have known women who have and they said she was a pretty decent author. As for Mark Hamil, what ever happened to his stage career? I know someone who saw him in "Amadeus" in NY and thought nobody would remember him for "Star Wars" with a few more years on Broadway. Bad agent?
