Free Seven...

Captain
Captain
After all these years being stuck in an alcove in Cargo Bay 2, I would have though by now the Doc could have come up with some sort of solution to her living arrangement. One would think that he and B'Elanna could convert some regular quarters to accomodate Seven's special needs.

I have a sneaking suspicion she likes her cargo bay.

She could probably have anything she wants; I read in "Homecoming" where they managed to squeeze a regeneration unit into Icheb's dorm room at the academy.

Maybe they asked Seven if she wanted normal quarters and she said she didn't.

Woo, look at me, Fleet Captain. :)

Would the cargo bay have more access to power etc. that would be needed for her regeneration unit and other things? At least more than crew quarters would?

Unfortunately Seven remained enough of a borg to require the alcove. Also, as a former borg she wasn't overly fond of spending time alone.

Given Janeway's comment to Seven in Unimatrix Zero regarding how comfortable she seemed as Annika I think she and the rest of the crew would have loved to have seen Seven become even more human. However, Seven had to go at the pace most comfortable for her and given the young age she was assimilated the fact she got as far as she did was quite remarkable - almost to the point of disbelief in some ways.

^ Seven had a remarkable force of personality, which she no doubt inherited from her iconoclast parents. Think about them; it was nuts what they did -- and alone. It took a lot of personal fortitude. When she set her mind to something, she usually succeeded.

I never thought of it that way. I guess resistance really is futile. :D

^ Remind me, too: what was the reason again that the Queen had for choosing Seven as a liaison?

I always thought it was because she was the only available human on the ship Janeway was negotiating with. Planting a "reclaimed" human on Voyager would have given the borg a spy. However, that's not what Seven ended up being...

Or was she? There were certainly times when she seemed to be accessible to the Queen in a way that was a little bit disturbing (as in Dark Frontier). I always wondered if the Queen let Seven stay on Voyager simply as a way to keep tabs on the ship.

She should have been given her own quarters with or without the regeneration unit. Even Data had his own quarters, so I dont understand why seven was never given any.

^"Even" Data ? Data was his ship's Second Officer and giving him quarters would not require moving large amounts of potentially dangerous Borg technology.

Seven was given quarters in her Holodeck scenario in "Human Error", since in that scenario her Borg implants had been removed and she no longer needed to regenerate.

For the record, "Dark Frontier" states that the Queen had deliberately allowed Seven to leave the Collective as part of her larger plan to assimilate humanity. The Queen needed a unique human perspective to understand why assimilating humanity had proven so difficult.

The Borg were much better, much more menacing, before they invented the queen. She was a huge weakness, IMO.

As I said with or without the alcove, In theory Data didnt need quarters, he doesnt require sleep, or to wash or anything. But It would have been nice for her to have somewhere to unwind when she wasnt working or re-generating. Somewhere to sit.

Probably wasn't asked for as Seven was much more concerned about performance and perfection than comfort.

She presumably did not request it. She was all business in the early days.

Data did require quarters, he's a person with belongings he needs to store (like his hologram of Tasha), a cat to look after and projects he wished to pursue in private - hence the independent computer system he had.

Well yes data had a lot of things he wanted to so in his spare time and I think he had the right to some quarters. Maybe seven didnt request them but I think Janeway should have given her some anyway. Even if she only used them to 'assimilate data' from the ships computer- becuause she liked to do that. I think it would have been a little push in the direction of her exploring her humanity, the doctor could have helped her to decorate it. They could have taken some of her social skills lessons in there. I always did think that Janeway didnt help seven enough, but I guess she didnt have enough time. It's just a shame the ship didnt have a counsellor who would have taken seven by the hand. The doctor was good, but he was a man and was not living.

^Seven flitted between wanting to be human and not being interested so often it was hard to tell what she really wanted.

To be fair to Janeway, she was the ship's Captain and she did not have time to make Seven her personal fixer upper. She had well over a hundred other crewmembers to think about.

Yea I agree she probably didnt have enough time a shame the ship didnt have a Deanna Troi. Could have imagined Deanna taking her by the hand, trying to teach her about the power of Chocolate Sundaes  Data trying to teach her about poker with his newly learned skills. Her going to the beauty salon with Beverly and Deanna.:)
