It all looks great - and oddly enough, more suggestive of what I'd have expected a Trek "update" to look like than the Pike/Kirk?Spock "era" that we've seen so far. 
One wonders, idlely, if there isn't a television series to be carved out of the earlier era. I'm sure that if that "Starfleet" fan organization with all of the local ships is still around there will shortly be a few chapters serving aboard Kelvin-type vessels...

I think you mean a KelvAn. Besides, Kelvin is a notable scientist in Earth's history.
I agree, I don't like that the ship seems upside down to me, but other than that, the designs look very good, appropriately aged, and very much from a TOS style tech manual.
As for the alien, THAT's the kind of alien I've been wanting in a Trek movie for AGES. It just seemed odd to me that these movies had millions of dollars in budget and we had the same TV style makeup, if even that. The closest we had to real variety was Star Trek III and VI. Doctor Soran didn't have to be a human-looking El-Aurian, the Sona were a big disappointment, and the Remans seemed pretty typical in that only their heads were different and nothing else.
This also confirms the first name of Kirk's father, something we'd only been able to speculate on for now. Also throws in another nod to the previous continuity by mentioning Beta Quadrant, though that's probably on the part of the designers of the website as opposed to being taken directly from the movie.
I'm like the registry number better and better.

I really get a Arex the Triexian vibe from the Alien. Not exactly the same but close.
Sortof looks like species 8472. Atleast the head does. Not sure about the rest of it.
I find it interesting that apparently the Kelvin can switch between pulse phasers and regular phasers.

I showed a friend those pictures and he thought the alien looked a bit like Kif from Futurama.

The look and color is similar to the gray uniforms seen in the academy pics. Also the jackets worn in "The Cage"
Again, watch the trailer again and freeze it on the final shot of the Kelvin.
Nothing is off in regards the Phasers.
You know, registry number notwithstanding, I quite like the Kelvin. True, the nacelle seems a bit close to the saucer, but we could explain that away with better hull plating outclassing weaker, older engines, where by the time of the Enterprise the engines have gotten stronger and they've had to move them away. Having the secondary hull nacelle be almost entirely hangar also seems to echo the future Nebula class, perhaps an interchangeable unit for various missions? I do think that the images of the model on the site are a bit squished, though I'm not yet convinced the phasers are misplaced.
I really wish the Enterprise had more in common with the Kelvin, actually, even though the K is at least 15 years older - I just prefer its aesthetic because it seems more in line with TOS but as others suggested, this may be JJ's nod to the original prior to his reboot.

actually it's sounds more like the Kelvin is around 30 years older than the Enterprise.
I don't see a nodding at all. There is one ship 15 years older than the other ship which is supposed to be the flagship of the fleet and more advanced and simply newer. I see a ton of similarities between the two. One's simply newer and... The Enterprise.
Reading that made me wonder, too. Wasn't pulse phaser technology supposed to be a new, next step in weapons technology when the Defiant was introduced back in DS9? Something we had never seen before?
I don't know about never seen before. We've seen phasers pulsing instead of a beam, at the very least, in The Wrath of Khan. TOS visual effects never were really consistant, but they appeared to pulse at times there too.

(1) The TMP-era-like red beam-firing emitters.
(2) The pop-up blue bolt-firing emitters.
I don't think we'll see the different emitters "switching" -- I think they're each dedicated systems, which still makes the Defiant's weapons special.
Oh, and remember Kirk orders the phasers to be "set for proximity blast" in Balance of Terror, for whatever that's worth.
