Besides, isn't a Kelvin an alien that turns people into little white pentahexacubical thingies?
No, that would be a KelvAn.

I don't know, having now seen the Kelvin in 3-D I don't much care for it. It looks kinda blah; That and upside down. Besides, isn't a Kelvin an alien that turns people into little white pentahexacubical thingies?
Wow! Thanks for the heads up, and the downloadable screen caps!

I really get a Arex the Triexian vibe from the Alien. Not exactly the same but close.
And the current artwork still doesn't satisfy me as representing the real thing - the pop-up turrets are still shown in the wrong places, not extending to the area immediately forward of the "U.S.S. Kelvin" pennant as the trailer shows.
Agreed. The screencap of the phaser turrets shows them right above the NCC, but on the model, they aren't there.
A
nd is it just me, or does Alnschloss K'Bentayr look ALOT like Arex?

Sortof looks like species 8472. Atleast the head does. Not sure about the rest of it.
I showed a friend those pictures and he thought the alien looked a bit like Kif from Futurama.
I really hope they show more of this ship soon![]()
The look and color is similar to the gray uniforms seen in the academy pics. Also the jackets worn in "The Cage"I believe this is also the first instance of a blue uniform connoting command status.
They are of course in the correct locations in the screencaps, by definition. But the three hatches supposedly hiding the pop-uppers on each side seem oddly placed in the rotatable model itself - too far back, much as in the artwork where the ship flies nose up against a red nebula background, with a planet to the left. Or then I'm seeing things for squinting too hard, as the rotatable model is so damn dark and not zoomable.Watch the trailer again, the Phasers are in the correct locations.
You know, registry number notwithstanding, I quite like the Kelvin. True, the nacelle seems a bit close to the saucer, but we could explain that away with better hull plating outclassing weaker, older engines, where by the time of the Enterprise the engines have gotten stronger and they've had to move them away. I really wish the Enterprise had more in common with the Kelvin, actually, even though the K is at least 15 years older - I just prefer its aesthetic because it seems more in line with TOS but as others suggested, this may be JJ's nod to the original prior to his reboot.

Reading that made me wonder, too. Wasn't pulse phaser technology supposed to be a new, next step in weapons technology when the Defiant was introduced back in DS9? Something we had never seen before?I find it interesting that apparently the Kelvin can switch between pulse phasers and regular phasers.
