Sold my first song...

I have been an aspiring song writer for several years now..and I have finally sold my first song to a song publisher. It's a mushy ballad/or country song, which is old school these days..but heck...it got me $1500 and I like that part...a lot!!

Nice going, Rob. I am also a songwriter, of 20yrs or so. Also do a fair bit of band performance type stuff, usually as a bassist. May you sell a dozen more ~

Wow..cool stuff. You must be pretty good at GUITAR HERO..not me...I need for them to come out with "LOUNGE LIZARD HERO!"

An impressive achievement. Congratulations.

Congratulations! :bolian: That's pretty cool.

Now what does it mean exactly that you sold the song? Did you sell them the Copyright, or just the right to produce the song? Will you get credit? Residuals?

And did you write the lyrics and the music, or just the lyrics?

Congratulations! I'm a songwriter myself, played in bands for 20 years, but never sold any songs. Good luck in the future.

KUDOS!
Will you get royalties for the rest of your life? (Or rather, the song's life. If it's a hit, you'd be like Hugh Grant in that Christmas movie. Living on royalties!)
RJ, I assume that if he's selling a song like that, and not writing it in collaboration with a band, he wrote the music and the lyrics.

Never played it. I've heard the response times are not natural, though. I've noticed it with GTA: San Andreas, there is a funny mini-game where you're bouncing your car (hydraulically) to a beat. Only if you really do play it on the beat, you miss every point.

I do a lot of piano also, I primarily write that way these days. Once upon a time, I also worked in one of those gimmick-organ shops where they do classes in super-simplified keyboarding for Seniors while constantly subtly pitching the ENORMOUSLY overpriced instruments. I'm talking like a 50-key keyboard with 4 damn tones and 4 beats for $1500 dollars. I half-sold one, and still feel dirty about it. Also sold a couple of spinets, and that was the sum total of my selling ability. There were some older, late 70's Hammond home organs that had some killer tone. Drawbars are the shit. And there was a guy in his mid-late 80's working there who played an early jazz style that you just don't hear anywhere. We both ended up getting fired, which was an honor, and he died a few years later.

So the song - is it a waltz, or slow 4 ? What sort of modality does it have ?

I assume so, too, but I'm just curious-- mainly because I can write lyrics, but I can't write music. :D
