Most people had never seen salt shakers like the ones seen in TOS. Most people still haven't.More likely, it's that the set-dresser would never be caught dead in such a "low-brow" establishment that something like that would be used... and he thinks anyone who would is so far beneath him that we're all incapable of recognizing it anyway... durrrrrrrrr.....Those bar-code scanners, for example, reek of 23rd Century kitsch! Why are they there? Probably because they look cool! Why do they look like the two most popular bar code scanners on the market? Probably because the set designer thought we don't pay attention to stuff like that when we go shopping!
It's insulting on two levels, in other words. The guy should never be allowed to work on this sort of thing again.
C'mon... you wanna use commercially-available details as "found items?" AT LEAST REPAINT THE DAMNED THINGS... or turn 'em upside down... or SOMETHING. SHEESH!![]()
TOS used salt shakers for medical equipment, TWOK used tape-cassette trays for wall paneling, I'm sure the list of found-objects goes on and on. I don't get why some are bent out of shape about this.
like I said I've been gone I didn't know which one to put it inYou know, there's an entire thread dedicated to talking about the trailer that you could have posted this in...
Speaking of visual symbolism...anybody else notice the color of the car that goes over the cliff...Yeah, the car is the first redshirt in the film.
plus it's the fabled little red corvette![]()
I'm near-certain that 1, 2, 3 (but not the second 3) and 4 have all been discussed at some point in the pinned trailer discussion thread. Why don't I move this over there, so that the Vulcan heavy sweaters and possible rapid-fire timeship phasers can be added to the mix and the rest raised again? Hang on...1.) Why doesn''t Vulcan have its traditional red sky?
2) the building on Vulcan looks like a matte painting from ENT's 4th season, certainly not bad but not the quality we'd expect.
3) Cross looks just like Mark Lenard. Lenard has a distinct voice, but I still think of Sarek hearing Cross.
3) Do Vulcans no wear heavy sweaters?
4) Did they finally put seat belts on the bridge?
5) Is that the time ship shooting rapid fire phasers?
Moving to the trailer review/discussion thread.Well to be honest (this has been said plenty of times before) it feels nothing like Star Trek except for the Vulcans. However, It does it look very entertaining in the same sense that Transformers was. Confusedmatthew sums up my views very well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsdmBFvdS-g

EM. For me, just about every moment of it evokes a memory of Classic Trek in one way or another. It's flashier but I sense core values are present within the pomp.
