Official Trailer Review & Comments Thread!! [Spoilers, of course]

Looks amazing from what I could actually see. Just got back from QoS and I swear they played like 6 trailers.

Trek was not one of them. I was livid.

Watching it all I could think was, "this is not ST". It just looks so over done and "all show". Star Trek was always about the characters; it just seems like this one is all about trying so hard to make Trek "cool" in the eyes of people who would normally not care at all. I am not sure that is what will make for good Trek. I know that there are plenty of people who still get drawn into each of the series and become fans. They respond to the message and hope and the characters, not the flashy affects. I want this to be good, but to quote another good sci-fi movie, "I've got a bad feeling about this".
Says the man with an avatar referencing the WORST Star Trek Series ever produced.....

That worst series was VOY. I just do not see this as a Trek movie. I am sorry but this is not BSG that was on for 1 season and can easily be redone. Trek has 40 years of history and 300 of Trek history. If you want to reboot it, just say it is a reboot; don't pretend to care about canon and then just create a new ship that does not look enough like the original (all so they can sell toys) and an interior that looks like an iPod. Also, the whole trailer looked like just any other sci-fi flick with a trek facade. Why would you not just say, "it's a reboot" and then it would be much easier to accept.

Okay first half of that 40 years of history is Fan created history, and the other half of the remaining half has been in dispute since it was created by either Gene waffling on it, or Berman and Braga shitting all over it. And that is NOT Conjecture.

Why do YOU give a fuck what I said to MattJC?! It was meant for him and he knows what I meant. If you bothered to read MattJC's recent posts, you would know that he has been on a journey. I rejoice with MattJC in finding the answers he has been seeking.

Aww crap, and just when I thought we were starting to see eye-to-eye. In fact, I have read every one of Matt's posts, and while he's been annoyingly stubborn, it's interesting that his position has begun to shift.

However, your comment about hoping he'll like the movie seemed weird and I took your post at face value. You're professing he'll like something you know almost nothing about and had no hand in producing. For me, that's like grabbing a random desert product off the shelf in a supermarket you've never tried, handing it to some cranky stranger along with a spoon, and saying "I hope you'll like this."

It's just weird.

Hopefully ArcherGuy's less literal take on your position is better worded. That makes more sense.

As far as me commenting on what you said ... [looks around] ... it's kind of a public forum ... we're all talking to each other and stuff.

My only TREK nit to pick about the trailer - do not like the transporter effect.

^^^I still HOPE everyone will like this movie. I am not naive enough to believe everyone WILL like it, but I have HOPE. Star Trek taught me hope in 1973. I won't bore anyone with my biography again.

I HOPE even you will like it. Perhaps you will and perhaps you will not. I am a glass-half-full kind of guy, always have been.

I just appreciated that, for the most part, there was consistency in Trek. Not always, and I could usually over look that. Mainly because trek was about moving forward. When it went back, it at least went back to a time we knew almost nothing about. But Kirk's time, we know almost everything about. We might not know all the details but we know that what this movie has things look like and redesigned do not jive with what we know Pike's E looked like. I just almost wish, they had left trek alone and allowed those 10 movies and 5 series to stand. And if you want to redesign and reboot then just call it what it is, a reboot.

But that shows there's been an INCONSISTENCY IN TREK. If you can't keep the story straight, when you go back and make everything look MORE ADVANCE than the era you are prequelling there is a problem. I can see the New E as a way of fixing that problem. As I said as a thirty five year old fan who's seen all the older stuff, got the techmanuals (Which btw were for RPing they really had nothing to do with the show itself especially the FSA released materials.) Enterprise irked me WAY more than this movie does because I see it as an updating with current technology to a much more intergrated look to the REST of TREK.

We're just going to agree to disagree here. From what I'm seeing of this new movie it's a fair attempt at bringing the Franchise current. I'm sorry you find fault with it, but I feel you're wrong, especially after seeing what Berman and Braga did to Trek after DS9.

Hey, I liked ENT, so sue me. It was not the best Trek ever, but not the worst.
Ratings and the fact that the only show to be cancelled sooner that it was the Original series say otherwise.

TOS got 3 seasons and ENT got 4. So if anything Ent was better by your calculations.
Um with no TOS there never would have been an ENT... WHAT!!! LOGIC? And TOS was mainly axed due to its expensive budget. Ent Lasted longer than it should because it was on UPN, protected by the parent company.

I am sorry but ENT did not look more advanced. It only did in production value and that is not it's fault. It tried as hard as possible to downplay that, but in the end it would look better than the original because it had more money and better equipment behind it. But it also did make an attempt to be in line with the rest of what came after it. The ship was small, no shields, poor phasers, the first photon torpedos and many other things to make it feel older, not to mention the cramped feel of the ship. I always felt like the NX-01 was working from the Phoenix and not the TOS E, which makes more sense anyway.

We will disagree, I guess. I did not really like VOY all that much, but I did enjoy, especially the last two season, of ENT as it began to connect to TOS. I though that it was really starting to work.

I do still hope to like the new movie, but we shall see.

The full bootleg is out there, if you look.

Looks stunning - can't wait for the hi-def version.

If the story and characters are of the same quality as the visuals, we're in for one hell of a movie.

The last season of ENT was good. If it had been like that from the beginning maybe I would agree that VOY sucked more (Not a voyager fan.)

Best episodes of Enterprise were the two part In a Mirror,Darkly... Though I still feel the TOS Sets and Defiant really didn't work as much as most of the Canonistas swear it did. Defiant looked out of place against the better rendered more realistic vessels and the TOS Style sets really only looked good when darkly lit like the rest of the sets on the show were.

Also it's amazing that you let production values slide for Ent, but are so against the New Enterpise when its movie has a 150 million dollar budget behind it. The new Enterprise looks like it could have come after the NX-01. The TOS enterprise just doesn't it still looks like an anacrhonism.

I swear, I don't know how some people can be such perfectionists in real life and live normally. Who cares if the ship was built in space or on the ground? It was never shown on screen regardless before this film. We're lucky we get to see it at ALL.

While I agree canon is important, it's pretty insane to say 'Well, now I'm not going to watch the movie because the Enterprise is built on the ground.' Or you won't see it because you THINK that's how they're going to portray it in the film. How will you know until it comes out? Come on guys. Is it really that important? I could understand the complaints if the Enterprise in this movie looked like a Star Destroyer or something, but it looks almost the same as the refit from TMP.
