Official Trailer Review & Comments Thread!! [Spoilers, of course]

Why? What difference is it to you whether he likes it or not? You don't know it's a good film yet, do you? It's like Schrödinger's Trek ... the film is done and in the can. It sucks or it doesn't, but until May, we really won't know.

Yes, how terrible to be cursed with optimism. It's such suffering to hope for the best. and wanting someone else to enjoy something? Why, that's positively generous! Empathetic, even. No room far that on this forum, no sir!
If it's so terrible, have you considered consulting a doctor to have it removed? :vulcan:

It's my universe, after all. The rest of you are freeloading.

What a selfish, miserly attitude. It's not "your" universe. You didn't create it, you don't own it, is wasn't made specifically for you, and you have no more right to it than the rest of us. We're all fans and Star Trek is all of "ours."

"Star Trek?" Who's talking about Star Trek? I'm talking about The Universe. It's mine. All of it.

Which, upon reflection, would include Star Trek, too. Thanks for pointing that out! I need to get in touch with Paramount.

I went to QoS and the theatre didn't show it! :klingon:

So, I broke down and just watched a bootleg of it online...

And, bootleg quality and all, I am literally shaking with excitement!!! So much so that the text of the last sentence used to read: anndn bootteledg qualkttiyl andndn alall i amasm leuitlally shahekking withrt exxczietiement!

I've gotten very emotional in my old age, and have been on something of a hair-trigger since a near-death experience earlier this year, so bear that in mind.

I just saw it, and have literally been crying tears of joy ever since. Can't wait til a good HD vid is available for download so I can watch it frame-by-frame.

No damn trailer. None for Watchmen either. Talked to the projectionist after Bond (which was adequate) and turns out that theater didn't attach it to any of their QoS reels. Assholes.

Okay, I've loved Abrams since the second season of Alias. After the first few pictures of Star Trek came out, I was particularly enthused, with the exception of the shots of the bridge. Seeing the new Enterprise, I had a very mixed reaction. Seeing the trailer in front of Quantum of Solace?

I had a nerdgasm. I am so stoked for this film, I can't tell you. May can't come soon enough! :)

Here's something from a pretty serious "CHANGE NOTHING BUT THE ACTORS!" person-

As I watched the trailer, when they had the VERY familiar red alert sound and you saw people running down those tunnel-like corridors, something happened I can't explain.

Maybe it was the sound of the claxon, but despite them looking VERY different, I found myself recognizing the corridors as those of Kirk's Enterprise.

It was a very strange moment for me, and I'm hoping I'm not coming down with something. :p

Don't like how wide the helm is, tho'. And there are more of those stupid barcode scanners on it too.

Someone must pay for this.

Most likely me. I'm just not sure how much money to put aside for tickets. Two showings' worth, or twelve. :)

I think you've mixed up "Kirk's Enterprise" with the "Wildfire" laboratory featured in Robert Wise's The Andromeda Strain:

Well, QoS didn't have the trailer so after seeing that movie (okay, BTW), I checked out the bootleg trailer.

Hate the kid stuff, love everything else.

Kids in movies are always terrible. That annoying kid from Insurrection (or maybe it's Anakin from The Phantom Menace) is back and now he's actually Kirk. Yuck.

But the effects, the other voiceovers, the brief character glimpses we got - I like it all. I am hoping the kid stuff takes no more than maybe 5 minutes of the movie.

Also, question: at one point a guy in command yellow who looks older than Kirk says "prepare to fire all weapons." Do we know who that is?

The new transport effect looks cool! :techman:

I think this looks great, there is a pretty sense of epic scale to it.

Just watched it I am started to get a little misty eyed it does have to be said, it was kind of what I expected because I read the trailer description but it was a lot more too, Simon Pegg seemed interesting and the action looks spot on, if this film is not great I will be amazed.

Why didn't they show the scene where Nero kidnaps Pike and mocks him by making beeping sounds? :)

The trailer also seems to confirm that there is a Uhura/Kirk relationship, even if it's only a one-off.

Well, that does everything a trailer is supposed to do and get you intrested (and excited!) for the new movie.

I wish we saw more Bones, from that brief glimpse Karl Urbann is going to a fantastic McCoy.

By his accent I'd say Nero is not a Romulan but an Irish man from Dublin. Taking his bitten off ear into consideration maybe he's from the south side :P

I like the cabin rooms in the trailer when Uhura was...changing clothes. Very TOS

If that trailer didn't get you exited, you may have to check your pulse. I for one loved it and the 8th of may can't come soon enough.

I don't get the style over substance criticism at all. What did YOU think you were getting when Paramount announced a 150 million summer Trek movie directed by the guy from Alias and Lost? Yeah, this most certainly won't be as cerebreal as TMP or TWOK. But I'll bet it will be an exciting two hour space adventure. And when is the last time we've had one of those?

(BTW, if you answered the Star Wars prequels, you are incorrect.)

That was....WOW!...Quite simply WOW! C'mon May 9!!!

*Jumps in time machine*

*kicks you out of the time machine and hijacks it for May 9*

*some clicking is heard, but nothing happens*

*head pops back out*

Um... keys?

-----------------

As for people here expecting some sort of character development FROM A TRAILER: may I kindly remind you that even the most character-driven movies of all time don't show development during a trailer, they show selling points. Talk about people complaining for the sake of complaining!
