The New Enterprise Reveald

I'm sure that there's only one small change that has to be made to make it flow more: shove the complete secondary hull a bit more to the aft. That would mean that the neck and pylons would stay at exactly the same place as where they are now. I'll sketch something up soon, I'm sure that this design can be rescued!

So, I've slept over it, and checking it again with fresh eyes.

I like it!

If anything, its the TMP-style saucer that looks most out of place, if you consider all the organic shapes of the secondary hull and engines.

So, do we know who actually designed the ship? And what kind of work he did before?

Re: The New Enterprise Revealed

I was determined not to like the redesign out of principle, but now I've see it I kind of do like it. The design is fairly unique compared to designs from other Star Trek era's.

I think it looks a bit better this way ...

That does look much better. One other problem I have with the 2nd-ary hull is that it doesn't look much like a habitable volume, it looks more like one giant engine pod or something.

That stuck out for me too... of all the elements of the design it's the most unchanged and yet it doesn't quite work with the rest of the design.

Re: The New Enterprise Revealed

I just woke up and turned on the computer. Is this real? Seriously- this is a joke, right? Just a bad fan design? It's too early in the morning for this...

Sums up my thoughts exactly. I much prefer the edited image. I was hoping for a TMP look, but maybe with the nacelle caps of the TOS ship. I'm still not sure what I think of this.

The secondary hull seems too severe, and I'm still undecided on the nacelles (which are trying to be blue :p)... It'll probably grow on me, but it'll be hard to marry this up with the 1701 we've all grown up with...

I said the same thing in the Trex XI thread about the ship...the saucer doesn't fit. If you're going to goof up the ship...goof it ALL up!

I also said that the ship's first impression with me is a negative one. The Enterprise should be like your high school crush...beautiful the first time with no explanation necessary.

Given how...abruptly the secondary hull ends, I wonder whether this is just (as some here have suggested) an odd angle that skews the perspective. I confess I was also looking closely at the pic to see if there were visible stars just behind the secondary hull, or if something had been edited out. Unfortunately, it appears that there are stars, so the editing theory is a no-go.

My overall take? To me, this evokes the Enterprise-D more than anything else, particularly near the rear of the secondary hull. While I have always found it difficult to imagine the design evolution from TOS Enterprise to the E-D, I can very easily imagine this new E's philosophy extending into the future to become the E-D.

Overall, as with many of you, I am less disgusted than I'd feared, and less pleased than I'd hoped. Now let's just get to the darn movie already! {ProfJonathan}

There is a new Dinghy of Suckitude on the loose, courtesy of JJ Abrams.

This bastardization actually makes me prefer the Akiraprise.

That shouldn't be even remotely possible, but there it is.

I still contend the nacelles are not active and when the bussards are warmed up to a nice red glow people will be much happier.

If this were/ is a completely new class, I could go for this design (reluctantly). But as the Enterprise (remake), no. I've seen enough remakes of the original E that are much more appealling. This is a shame. I'll watch the movie- but I'm going in with the attitude that it's just a remake, and has nothing to do with the Star Trek universe history as we know it.

It makes me want to pluck out my own eyes - it's abhorrently hideous.

(not really: it does make me want to pluck out Abrams' eyes though...)
