Knight Rider cancelled???

I loved the original series, and I still love the original series, moon-sized cheese and all. When I say I'm not a follower of the new show, I mean it. I only watched the TV movie, and I loathed it on almost every level, although I believe I approached it with an open mind. After all, the original series didn't exactly set a high standard. :)

I still wish the best for the fans of the new series. As for freeing up the time slot for something more deserving.... Look at the hours and hours of crappy reality TV that airs each week. If there's a place for that waste of broadcast bandwidth, then there should be a place for Mike Traceur and neo-KITT.

That's fine, but I still wouldn't miss it if it were gone, AND I'd still be happy to see another prime time slot open up that might go to a better show. I just hope it would be another sci fi show.

The only time I get compassionate about other people's shows is when I see people getting really hooked on them. I haven't seen that with Knightrider, at least not on this forum. What I have seen is people cutting it a lot of slack (as I did the first couple episodes), but no one saying it's great. I don't see the same kind of enthusiasm I saw for "Firefly" or "Odyssey 5," or even "Threshold."

You've pretty much hit the nail on the head; And the sad truth is, Knight Rider '08 offers nothing to be enthusiastic about. The writing, well it's not horribly bad, but not very good either. The characters, are not all that interesting. In fact if KR08 were picked up for a second season and the replaced every character, I doubt anyone would care. The car; Well it's nice but it doesn't have the "car of the future" vibe that the original KITT 1982 Trans-Am had. Also it's abilities seem gimmicky (if that's a word). The action is okay. The only real positive about the show are the hot chicks who strip down to nothing at the drop of a hat.

In the original KR, the writing was cheesy, but the characters were very good and the car always had that "wow" factor.

I'm glad KR08 is getting a chance at a full season. The show has improved episode to episode (with this past week's being the best thus far). I know it's the popular show to bash right now, but believe it or not there is a very enthusiastic fan base that enjoys the program.

 Yeah, that really adds to the show. If I want to see that I'll go to the InterWeb Thingy and Google some porn.

Knight Rider overall demo is low but it normally wins a key 18-34 male demo though the real saving grace is the total viewers which from episode 3 jumped back up a million and only loss a small amount last week. If it can stay above 7 million and the demo stays at least 2.2 it will stand a good chance of a 2nd season due to how other NBC shows are doing plus apart from Bones it does well against the opposition.

The thing about KR08 is that there are just too many characters. It would work best if it was Sarah, Charles, Mike, and Carrie as a liaison to the government. I would also like to see Mike working behind the scenes to see find out what happened with FLAG, his father, and the original KITT. They could also do without every episode involving an old buddy or nemesis from Mike's black ops days.

Agreed on the cast. It really didn't need to be expanded. I could see Charles and Sarah fulfilling much of the technical roles that Zoe and Billy serve (but not the comedic ones of course).

As for FLAG and so on, Gary Scott Thompson has stated by episode 13 we will know that FLAG has "not been forgotten" and it kind of makes me wonder if it ties into the character supposedly returning by ep 12.

Zoe and Billy add absolutely nothing to the show except for idiotic 20-something feeble comic foil. If this were Voyager, I'd do a Captain Janeway and shove them both out of an airlock.

This idiotic twentysomething enjoys the stuff with Billy and Zoe. It was certainly the only thing keeping me coming back after those first couple episodes, which were really rocky.

Those two are as painful to watch as a trauma to the groin segment on America's Funniest Home Videos.

To be fair, I'm not saying that they don't make me laugh or that Zoe doesn't make me think very creative thoughts. But when you have a cast so big that characters disappear for two or three episodes at a time, it's time to trim the fat. KR really isn't a "crew" show like Star Trek. You could do an ep of TNG and have Data, Geordi, Riker, Troi etc. all appear to some degree. In KR it's like "Billy's got all the tech stuff handled, so um...no need for Charles this ep." and I find that unfortunate.

^ In the show's defense though it's pretty easy to understand Carrie, Charles, etc being missing. It's likely they'd have to spend a lot of time in Washington or at other conferences and such to keep up their personas.

Last week's previews indicated that Knight Rider would not be on this week. I'm sure somewhere between NBC, the radio announcer, and the OP's ears, something got bobbled in transmission.

On a slightly OT, I was watching the Bionic Woman pilot today. They should do a back door finale for BW. Is she attracted to Michael or the car? Would bring new meaning to the Biblical phrase about your right hand not knowing what your left hand is doing.

I can agree with that. However, there is a missed opportunity here. Charles is basically the primary link to the original series for now. It may have been better to have him solidify his role as that link (via explanations of how he worked with Wilton or if he worked with the original KITT etc.) and then slowly (maybe over 2 eps) start featuring Billy and Zoe more. I've actually kind of missed his presence since the premiere episode. Even in "Iguana" he didn't do a whole lot. I hope he gets lots of screen time down the road. :)
