The bridge shots (large images)

Re: The bridge shots

I used Photoshop to get an idea of what Pine will look like in command gold. Check it out...
command_gold_web.jpg

The new uni's seem a little bit to "Aquaman-ish" for my taste. And it seems that the bridge is wwaayy to much like Galaxy Quest also. Are you people that take" JJ"'s words to heart really think that he is a "fan" or does he think that he can really bring in new fans of his "reimagining"???? We shall see on opening day, but unfortunately my money won't be included in the theatrical release. Everything I have seen and heard so far has been what I have thought what would happen if you tried to do the things Abrams wants.
I'll be waiting for you "JJ" fans" that complained about the story about why Khan couldn't remember Chekov because he wasn't on the Enterprise to remember him.
JJ isn't the one who was a fan. It was Orci and Kurtzman who were the fans.. In fact Abrams has stated he's more into Star Wars, which is why I trust his judgment, because he never said he was a fan, you guys just seem to keep lumping him in with orci and kurtzman to make your argument that he doesn't know what he doing. He does know what he's doing... He's directing and producing a movie for a mass audiance that's based on a dying franchise. He may just save it... He may not.. Only time will tell.

In your defense, Captain Mike, I didn't have too much trouble parsing this sentence. I just can't figure out what relevance it has to the discussion, nor even to the rest of your post. You've raised the non sequitur to an entirely new level, sir :bolian:.

Thanks for the assist. I simply meant there was so much confusion and plotholes of how Khan couldn't remember Chekov in TWOK. But yet he is a crew member in the new flick? And he doesn't seem as young as he should be.
See Abrams and Crew are already working to fix Botched continuity.. ANOTHER POINT FOR J.J.

Re: The bridge shots

By botching it further?

How old are you? Because I'm 35, I've seen every episode of Star Trek.. And beleive me they couldn't even get the damn name of the organization they were with together until half way through the first season.

I mean is it really that hard for you to give this a chance? If it is you need to go talk to a shrink because this kind of obsession is unhealthy. I've sat hear at my computer for the past few days and watched you do nothing but belittle the efforts of people who want to expand the fan base of this movie. Are they doing it for the Money.... Hell yes they are and that's the only thing THEY should be doing it for. Gene didn't do this to just tell a story, he was in the television production and writing business. He was in this to make money. Originally he failed with this product because it only lasted three seasons originally. He moved on to other things, like Genesis 2 and The Questor tapes. He only came back to it once Paramount decided that this property was the best chance they had to make a solid sci-fi movie AFTER they saw the success 20th Century Fox had with Star Wars. It still took till TNG to get ANOTHER show on television. Gene in that time wrote up early drafts of Final Earth, The Primemortals (which saw release as a comic book) and Andromdea, none of these saw release until AFTER his death. Star Trek in his eyes was just like any other TV Project and he only concentrated on it when he realized he had a cult following. HE Never wanted TAS as part of the continuity, He never wanted the books as continuity, and when he finally helped with the new movie he didn't give a damn about keeping it looking like the 1960's show.... If he had had more money the sets would have been more elaborate, but to say he had all his ducks in a row when he got the writers, like DC Fontana, Gene Coon, and the many he wrote himself, never gave a second thought to continutiy, which is why they were a United Earth Space Probe Agency Ship in the TOS episode Court Martial. Then in other episodes they mention the Federation, so what is it. So Gene can willy nilly change things as he sees fit and confuse you, but they change a bridge design because the old one looks hokey and out of place in modern story telling and you blow a gasket.

The great bird was not infallable and you're just being a petulant child because you want Trek done the way you want it done. Which makes you as bad a Berman in my book. Trek isn't about the look or what YOU feel is canon. It shouldn't be bound to an unexisiting history because you FEEL it's right. It's about the story and message, the wonder and the awe that the stories gave us. The mention of Chekov not being on the Enterprise is always a tongue in cheek referance to the fact that not even the franchise took itself seriously, Berman was a man who was so engrossed in his ego that he forgot that the show never took itself seriously even though the message behind it was taken seriously. You've lost your mind over the little details instead of the spirit and the story to be told. Why is that? Once again I say to you Trek is sick and if it was up to fans like you it would have been euthanized long ago. If this movie fails I doubt Paramount will consider doing another Trek for a long time, and a world with out the positive message in Trek is a world that will be just a little sadder. Maybe you should stop worrying so much about what could go wrong and think about the positive aspects. You seem to be disillusioned, and if you can't find anything positive about the fandom anymore, Robert it may be YOU that needs to go away and not Trek. Because Trek is a fictitious universe and really shouldn't be scrutinized with the depth and feeling you're giving it.....

It's a show, not a real time in the world... I think this movie will be good for Trek because we will find out if the concept is still viable or if it has been run into the ground. I'm hoping the former.

C'mon, Qonos, chill. April's stubborn, but there's no need to insult him like that. If he's really rubbing you that far in the wrong direction, ignore him or "bozo list" him (if these boards support that).

You're right about the excess focus on the negative. I hate that damned podium, but I'll give the bridge and the rest of the film its chance come May. Heck, I'll be plunking down another $10+ in a few weeks just to see the freaking trailer!

Psion has got it right, Qonos -- April is trying to wind people up and you just let him. Instead, disregard. Don't give him the reaction he's looking for.

These guys don't need to be ignored. THESE are the guys who have conditioned the NORMAL viewing audiance to see us as Geeks and nerd. I have no qualms putting on a uniform and going to a convention. Heck I've had some really good times at conventions. I gave Majel a copy of an obituary I wrote for her husband, okay... BUT to spend your days THINKING that this is the end all and be all of science fiction is deluding yourself. Some of these people who act like this NEED a wake call and since his real life friends won't do it. Maybe though my current state seeing as I went out to Open Mic night and sang some songs with some of the most rocking musicians in the poconos and had some beers and shots, Maybe I'm just being a little too open with my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong about Robert, maybe he's a cool guy who only has this one hang up. Maybe he's the type of guy you can sit down, have a beer with and chill. When he's not obsessing about Star Trek. Star Trek only takes up maybe an hour of my day on and off. Casual is the way to go, to build a life and persona around a fictious world usually means you're unhappy with your own life, of course Frued said sometimes a Cigar is just a Cigar and I can see that maybe Robert is just like a Yankee's fan. Wondering why they spent all that money on players, and end up at home in the post season.. I don't know.. I'm drunk.

I went to high school graduation in a Starfleet uniform. And I've done the full, motion picture Klingon more times than I'd care to admit. It was great fun. When someone asks me if I'm embarrassed, I reply, "There's always someone wandering around in the local town's football jersey or hockey shirt, and they're not athletes ... why am I any different?"

I know a guy who reminds me of April. He's a hoot to hang out with and has an amazing tongue that can deliver wicked lashes if he's in the mood. He loathes everything after Star Trek: The Motion Picture (or maybe Wrath of Kahn), and can't talk about any of the new shows without slipping a few insulting variations of each show's name in. I used to hang out with him precisely because he was so obsessive about the details of Star Trek ... we'd argue for hours in the old days. Wish I hadn't lost touch with him ....

Poconos, eh? You're only a couple hours away from me.

Cool if you're ever up this way on a sunday or a tuesday between 8p-1a I'll be the guy at the Pocono Pub running Karaoke :)

They wont mention it in the slightest.

I never said they'd mention it. Just pointing out that certain spoilers going around suggest that we might be seeing a
Warship Enterprise due to an altered timeline.
Trek fans will get it, nobody else might.

Imagine starting a movie like this with those sets and ending it with the 60s sets...
I didn't mention anything about the 60s sets. I also didn't mention that the timeline would be reset to reflect this.

Yeah, sorry, that was me getting a little carried away there.

But still, im with you on the whole alternate universe/ alternate enterprise thing. 110%, thing is we dont really know, so until anyone sees the movie and leaks details, its the bridge of the Enterprise.

I tried to introduce a little humour into my reply, but i forget that what im writing and what i mean in my head dont really make sense on paper, or come accross that way for that matter.

Sorry about that, didnt mean to sound like an attack or anything.

Re: The bridge shots

Actually, the fact that Berman, Braga, Moore, Piller and all the rest are professionals who produced close to twenty years of successful "Star Trek" on television and film makes them all quite different from CRA.

No problem :techman: Thanks.

Yeah I too am holding off my final judgement till seeing it. But I think this is how they mean it's a respectful to canon by linking it in a mild way to what came before. I don't think we will see a reset button timeline at the end. I think they'll continue with this altered timeline.

Nah i think this is what we got. Doubt theyll incorporate it really.

Unless...

*Evil genius plan unfolding in head*

We have a scene with Captain Robert April building a scale model in the corner of a rec-room of the TOS bridge. Thatll give a nice little nod to Trek history.

As did the studio they worked for. We're in the situation of Trek needing a reinvention, though, because it had been cannibalizing itself for decades. Look at how quickly the ratings for DS9 slid south after its first couple of weeks.

DS9 had quite a bit of competition in the first-run dramatic series category, most notably Babylon 5 and Xena, whereas TNG essentially had the field all to itself for most of its run.

This is very true. TNG was the pathfinder that proved to the networks that Sci Fi could be successful on TV again. I personally doubt that B5, NuBSG, SG-1 or perhaps even Lost or Heroes would have seen the light of day without TNG. If they had, they definately would not have had the studio budgets behind them they did (lacking as they were even then with some shows!).
