I recently watched the first season of TSCC on dvd, but have been slow to watch any of the 2nd season having heard about it being on the verge of cancellation, and not wanting Fox to break my heart again.

But this news turns all that around. Now if the show can make John a leader the world wants to follow, and give us some better action it might even make it to a third season

Interesting and if FOX can give it a good midseason payoff it may work though only a viewers increase of at least 1.5 million will save it IMO. I am looking at midseason TV lineup for FOX and the only free slots are sunday 7-8 at the moment unless they shake up a few other shows.

Should be the back 9 (including the 2 ordered scripts, which were for ep 14 and 15 - now those scripts can be actually filmed) + the 13 that were originally ordered, for a total season of 22 episodes.

This must be doing REALLY well online. I'd be curious what the iTunes sales are, particularly the Season Pass where people pay $39.99 up front for the season in progress. Literally investing in the future of the show! If there's much of that it would be a strong indicator of viewer loyalty.

What are you getting so upset about?

I stopped watching but not because it's a poor show. It's a good quality show, it's just ceased to interest me. None of that has anything to do with the ratings.

There's no question that those Nielsens are low! The phenomenon of shows being renewed for levels of ratings that would have gotten them cancelled not too long ago isn't just Fox. It's prevalent on NBC as well (which is paying the bills via product placements, and I think TSCC has being doing some of that as well).

I'm just following this thread because of my interest in the development of new revenue streams for TV shows. If a show that should be cancelled for low Nielsens gets renewed, there's a reason why, and I'd like to know what it is precisely.

TSCC is way on the wrong side of the Renew/Cancel Index line. That's the mystery here, why is Fox not doing what networks usually do?

If those aren't paid downloads, then there must be product placements in the show for those to count. That would allow DVR ratings to count as well. What kind of trucks has everyone been driving?

I think we're definitely moving into an era where characters' choice of vehicles and consumer electronics will have a huge impact on the survival of their series.

That's the kind of thing I've read being poo-pooed, that iTunes is too small overall to be much of a factor.
