The bridge shots (large images)

Re: The bridge shots

The floor? THE FUCKING FLOOR!?! THAT'S WHAT THEY THINK IS THE FUCKING SELLING POINT OF THIS CRAP!?!

I hope this thing tanks so badly that Paramount forces JJ to reimburse the studio.
I'd say you're the one who lacks hope, not us. Now you're just being mean-spirited. Over what? A bridge design, for fuck's sake.

Lighten up.

The bridge design grows on me and I think I like the way it will funtion in the film. Looks like they are taking paper out of everything - everything is scanned. I just wish it were a little warmer and homey feeling. They need some wood trim, soft carpeting, colorful cushions etc.

It's a bridge not a dayspa....

I do love the bridge. I've studied that shot very closely, pored over every angle, console and flickering light. The more I see it, the more I like it. I hope this film succeeds, I really do. I want to feel that magic again, the same kind I felt when I watched TOS for the very first time in 1984, at 4 years of age. Magic.

Re: The bridge shots

You people are hopeless.
No, we're filled with hope... and optimism. We're so hopeful we're practically Obama voters. You're the one who has abandoned hope.

That said, I still don't like the yeoman's podium or the giant isolinear chips standing around. I do like the displays above each station and the new captain's chair. And I think the cast looks great!

We can't have that. It's got to be sturm and drang, play me a dirge because Star Trek has gone back in time and as I was a child, has hit me in the head with a baseball bat and kicked my dog.

J.J. Abrams hates us all, and this new movie is going to suck because I hate it when people don't agree with me. In fact, I hope it sucks and sucks hard. That'll show how much I love Star Trek and it's bright, optimistic future.

Good lord. Could you be any more the Trekkie stereotype in this post?
You don't like one set because it doesn't match some design from 40 years ago for a failed pilot, so YOU HOPE THE WHOLE MOVIE FAILS!!!

"Captain's chair for one? Your wait will be approximately 5 minutes, sir."

Sorry, but that just looks ridiculous.

Actually that one segment of the bridge design has the only things I'm not 100% thrilled about - that little Yeoman Podium and the freestanding chip things. Everything else looks awesome.

I bet this bridge is destroyed at the end of the movie and Kirk shrugs and says "get a new module...FOR MY FIVE YEAR MISSION!!!" Then dances.

I may be crucified for saying this but I think it makes sense to have a workstation for the yeoman and others to organize their data, or work at. I could see someone stepping off the lift, checking on info or data somewhere on the bridge, entering it at the station, and if there is a problem or discrepancy, bringing it over to the captain.

Those old fat clipboards did not enable you to work anywhere. You had nowhere to lay them down, nowhere for easy access to scanners or computer for data entry. I think it will function well.

I agree, its a good idea. And I'm betting they still use paper. Those little barcode readers or whatever are probably to scan paper documents into the computer.

I suppose they could just be handgrips for when things get rough, but they seem a little more high-tech than that.

I must be the only one who likes the bright, white look of the bridge. It reminds me of the early bridge scene in TSFS, which I always really loved. Although not as bright as the new bridge, it was certainly lighter and brighter than the TWOK bridge from one movie before.

That clean, high-tech look suits Trek really well I think.
