NCAA Football 2008 Discussion - It All Starts Here.

I find it astonishing how often USC manages to lose a game that will have people calling them "overrated" no matter what they do with the rest of their year.

Frankly, I'd take a two-loss SEC team over an 11-1 USC or Ohio State for a BCS championship game.

Sadly, I'd have to agree.

As far as the BCS Championship, that game last night is this year's Stanford game.

USC will have to regroup and shoot for the Rose Bowl, which is certainly not a bad thing.

Hopefully they will spend some time this week working on TACKLING!!!!

:scream:

digits, do you have a guess as to what happened? Yeah, I know OSU came loaded for Trojan, but still I saw what you just referred to - more than a little problem with tackling. I can't believe that injuries played that big of a role, did they?

No I don't think injuries were the problem. Everything else was the problem.

If you look at Oregon State's last touchdown, the (defensive) problem was abundantly clear. Cushing filled the hole perfectly, went to tackle the kid, and basically whiffed as Rodgers ran under him. It sounds stupid but Rodgers was sliding under tackles all night because he's so short. I have no idea why USC didn't adjust faster. USC tacklers never got low enough, and the kid has some serious strength. USC didn't load the box until the second half, when they were already down 21-0. Once they did that, they held OSU to 6 points, but it was too late.

On offense, Joe McKnight had a terrible night. He had ten yards of rushing, a dropped pass, and a fumble in Oregon State territory. USC did not run the ball effectively.

The penalties...oh, the penalties. Terrible, stupid penalties.

Lastly this was the first game where Sanchez faced serious pressure. He was running out of the pocket a lot.

Let's face it. Oregon State did a great job in every phase of the game. We just got beat.

Man ... that almost sounds like my complaints about USC's pummeling of Ohio St. The Buckeyes were criminially guilty of missed tackling, ill-timed penalties, lack of adjustment.

I might do the same, but it would depend mightily upon just to whom those two losses were for that SEC team.

Quite right, of course. I was assuming that the hypothetical two-loss SEC team had done something like defeating Auburn, Alabama, Kentucky and Florida, while losing to LSU and Georgia, or somesuch. I thought such went without saying.

I think I'd take Oklahoma before 'Bama.

Why, though? If both win Saturday, Oklahoma will have as its only quality wins Cincinnati and TCU, whereas Alabama will have defeated Georgia and Clemson—at this point a vastly superior resume. That gives the Tide a significant edge over the Sooners—at least until OU adds some real scalps to its belt.

Dude, you're time on target here.

I got two words for you: Ray Rice. He hid behind Rutgers' monster O-line for three years just driving D-lines insane.

Hey! I'm goin' to the Rutgers-Morgan State game tomorrow. :techman:

If RU loses this one, you may never hear from me again. :scream:

What a game last night. After Ohio St. I didn't think USC could be beaten but lo and behold, they were and they just looked outplayed. Good win from Oregon St, but a better win for the Pac-10 because it really opened up the conference. Cal, despite losing to Maryland, should take this game and make a grand statement this weekend and then in conference play. This is a wide open conference now.

This is a wide open conference now.

Is it? Or was that simply USC's annual no-show?

That was not a good game at Oregon State, but I'm not ready to concede the Pac Ten yet. I still believe USC is prohibitive favorite to go to the Rose Bowl.

No offense, but I hope not. I want to see a really competitive Pac-10 each year where there might be a top two or three teams, but no favorite to reach the Rose Bowl.

Cal's game should be a win today as they had a bye after loss and it is in their home stadium. They start off right and Strawberry Canyon will carry the rest of the game. I wish I could go, but I am stuck house sitting.

But I do have tickets to next weeks game and Stanfurd! :klingon:
