Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cast?

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

Why the assumption by some that wanting to have an all male cast has anything at all to do with homosexuality?

Some people like myself simply do not like working with women and feel that an all male environment is much preferable to a coed working environment.

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

I couldn't cope with an all male cast, I like to see those members of the species who have a poonani.

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

Oh, let's face it. If it's "Star Trek" most of us would watch it.

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

I might watch it...the same way I'd watch a train-wreck....

So once again, the question remains: just what is it about Trek that keeps you coming back? Because it certainly doesn't seem to be the franchise's message of diversity and acceptance.

The technology and space exploration elements mainly.

I suggest that henceforth the race of each Star Trek crewmember, captain on down, be selected by randomized spin-of-the-wheel or multi-sided die throw.

Sex can then be assigned by a simple coin flip.

Diane Carey already did that with one of her novels. Went over like a lead balloon. So I say, "No." It would be boring. Hell, even Oz, a show about a male penitentiary, has female cast members! -- RR

What book was it?

Johnhead: It's called Ship of the Line, and is a sequel of sorts to the TNG ep Cause and Effect. Captain Morgan Bateson's ship, Bozeman, is crewed by an all-male crew, and in the story, he temporarily assumes command of Enterprise-E -- with the author conveniently forgetting that it would take a 23rd century starship captain and his crew quite some time to get up to speed on 24th century starship operations, for one big nitpick. I'm not a fan of Carey's writing or her political views, either. Her other novels, Dreadnaught and Battlestations, are dreadful in other respects, primarily because her character of Piper is basically a Mary Sue. -- RR

Dayton3: I for one never assumed an all-male cast automatically has anything to do with homosexuality. However, I think you're betraying slight misogynistic tendencies in some of your statements about women. Women aren't going back into the kitchen, friend. It's the 21st century. They will continue to break the remaining glass ceilings in society, esp. here in the U.S. -- RR

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

No, definitely not.

I'd rather like an all-alien all-female all-disabled all-homosexual cast. That would break every frontier yet hat.

 I'm just imagining what a lesbian klingon midget would be like as a Captain.

But seriously, I like that (mine, not all-male all-human) because it would be extremely interesting:

Captain: Klingon midget
XO: (pacifist) shapeshifter with ALS
Science Officer: Pakled missing a leg
Weaponry Officer: Vulcan needing a wheelchair
Communications Officer: Autistic Cardassian

etc.

^^This, of course, only when all of the Milky Way is controlled by the UFP in, let's say, 3100.

Gee I dunno, are they all neutered or something? Throw guys together in a cooped-up environment without women around, and what do you expect? It's like OZ in space or since this is regular broadcast and we can't get too gritty, maybe Prison Break (first season).

Personally, I do see the appeal - a million pages of fanfic can't be wrong - but I can also understand if heterosexual males would prefer the all-female version of this same concept. :rommie:

However, I think you're betraying slight misogynistic tendencies

Slight? :guffaw:

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

I want to see an all-mechanical, all-robosexual cast. It would be a major step forward in demographics and well ahead of its time IMO.

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

Would Trek fans here watch a Trek series with an all male, all human main cast?

Since you don't say when it's set I have to say YES, at least to sample it. The others are obviously into catsuit quotas.

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

If by 'the others' you're including me, I feel obligated to point out that by your argument I'd be completely in favor of an all-male all-human cast. Mmmm, hot men prancing around a ship with only themselves for company...

Were you abused by a female authority figure as a child or something? I mean, seriously, sexist much? :vulcan: During my time in the military, most of my direct superiors were female and I certainly never had a problem with it, nor did anyone else I know.

No.

Though my father, mother, and three sisters all feel the same way.

All of them loathe working with women.

The big thing is

male coworkers are shallow. There isn't much debt to their emotions and personalities.

You and a male coworker have a disagreement, buy him a coke in the breakroom an hour later and generally all is right with the world.

Female coworkers (in general) are not like that. If you have a disagreement with a female coworker it can last for days and take all sorts of efforts to return things to normal.

I never said "only men on the ship".

I said "only men in the main cast".

The crew overall can be half female for all I care.
