Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cast?

I like shows with all male casts. One of the reasons I think the first three years of Law & Order was so great.

Would Trek fans here watch a Trek series with an all male, all human main cast?

All male...sure. Why not?

All human? Absolutely, since all the supposed 'aliens' are just human beings in make-up anyway. So all human and predominately non-white.

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

It would be watchable but I would think it would limit the stories that could be told. Look how much mileage Trek has gotten out of it's various aliens.

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

It would conflict with everything established before to get rid of aliens, and you'd have to do a hard reboot or a massive retcon, something I am personally against. Keep the aliens we have, but when we meet new ones, make em really alien. And if there's an alien cast member, don't make said character's alienness a gimmick and don't make said character a Spock/Data. It's been done to death. Don't know why you'd wanna have the cast all male. I don't see how that would make it "better".

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

I would want to have a few women around, preferably in short skirts like on TOS. There's nothing quite like a sexy woman professional with some nice gams.

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

Only if all the aliens they meet are female...otherwise, not a chance.

Me likes women...

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

I think we're all overlooking the most important aspect here.

Are the men _hot_?

But seriously, this sounds like another 'Let's make Star Trek more like Star Wars' thread from someone who's been a bit outspoken on the subject in the past.

It also, frankly, sounds a bit like boring Trek. Though if at least 2 of the men are bi/gay, perhaps it's more like 'Trek After Dark'....

All-male? No.

All-human? Sure. I loved "Forbidden Planet."

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

What the heck would be the point of an all-male cast, anyway? We've been dangerously close to that for years, with the male/female ratios slanting heavily masculine. Now, if you want to shake up the TV world, get an all female cast. That'll show us.

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

I require all my tv shows to have at least one smokin' hot chick so pass.

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

Diane Carey already did that with one of her novels. Went over like a lead balloon. So I say, "No." It would be boring. Hell, even Oz, a show about a male penitentiary, has female cast members! -- RR

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

What would be the point of creating such a show? And why would you prefer an all-male cast?

That said, if it were called Star Trek, I'd probably watch.

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

why? and WHY?

and WTF?
Why?

No, i wouldn't watch it.

I'd rather see a realistic 24th century mix of genders - as in 50/50.

And no aliens?

why do i get the feeling you are sexist and xenophobic?

I just reread this line and it occurs to me that it carries many unpleasant subtexts. :vulcan:

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

I simply prefer the personal dynamics of all male groups. Like football teams or combat units.

Men act so differently when there are no women in close proximity to them. Arguably they act better and more focused than otherwise.

From a practical standpoint I read where a Paramount executive said once that "women will follow men to a tv show. men will not follow women to one".

And I did note a successful series that early on featured no female characters to speak of.

I can think of a number of successful movies with no female main characters as well.

Re: Would You Watch a Trek Series with an all male, all human main cas

I don't really see how an all-male, and especially an all-male all-human cast would be in any way, shape, or form forwarding the ideals that Trek claims to aspire to.

Seriously, based on this and other posts you've made I'm not sure what attracts you to Trek at all...you seem far more concerned with how it could be changed to better suit you than with appreciating it for how it is.

Only if Jack McCoy were the Captain, and the standard uniform was changed to kilts.
