Official Smallville Season Eight Spoiler Thread

I just can't understand how the woman watching TV would be obsessed by some one who is either a hunk of lumber, or is acting like a hunk of lumber.

Hunks of lumber aren't sexually threatening to young teenaged girls. You get over that when you get older. Yes, Clark is boring as hell. You can be a good guy and still have a little piss and vinegar to you. Welling doesn't have the abililty to convey any of that. Not that his writers give him any help.

Lets see?

Red Kryptonite Clark?
Love potion Clark from season 6?
Shape shifter girl from the Class who was pretending to be Clark? (Lesbian Kiss! made out with Lana. Totally under the radar!)
Bizarro Clark from the season 6/7 bridge?
Dream Clark from Lex's perfect world?

That's off the top of my head for the situations where Tom wasn't playing the real Clark Kent, he's been given the opportunity to show us range, and maybe he has?

I don't remember all those instances. I haven't exactly been a steady, loyal viewer of Smallville for a couple of years. I got tired of the format. Different strokes and all. There's nothing terribly wrong with Welling; he just doesn't click for me as a performer. Also, I've been terribly I'm spoiled by performances like this from the other Thursday night show on CW--

Straight laced, uber nice guy Sam Winchester (formerly geeky, skinny bad actor Dean on Gilmore Girls) possessed by a demon:
Evil Sam

I didn't think Padalecki had it in him to convey such a sense of menace--or that they'd let a main character cut an innocent man's throat in the epi, but they did. Welling just can't pull this off. Michael Rosenbaum could, but not Wellling. He's just too all American corn fed do gooder.

If they're fate rests on 90210 earning a 4 in the 18-34 demo, they're done after next year. 90210 will open (relatively) big, then it'll fade. Teenagers and college kids aren't going to be that entranced with it, not so much that they'll watch live.

After this coming season, isn't Smallville pretty much finished anyway? Seriously, where else can it go in the time before Clark becomes Superman? Welling's a man, not a boy. He can't pull off being a boy. The Winchesters are supposed to get older, more bad ass and more experienced. Clark's stuck in innocent boy mode, forever caught in "pre-Superman." Pretty soon, those crow's feet jokes are going to catch up with him. :p Welling can only do so much when his character isn't allowed to progress.

^ Plus it's going to be opposite some heavy hitters. If memory serves it'll be on on Tuesdays at 8:00. It's opposition is NCIS and House - ratings grabbers.

Oh good grief, House is the reason Reaper never gained any traction. House is one of the top five shows in 18-34 demo and, more importantly, the 18-24 demo. College students love House. College students don't love more rich, bratty white kids who sleep around all over the place--at least not on television.

Put a fork in 90210. Put a fork in CW while you're at it. How the advertisers and network bigwigs consented to give Ostroff yet another season is beyond me.

^ The list of opponents is:

ABC: Opportunity Knocks
CBS: NCIS
FOX: House M.D.
NBC: The Biggest Loser - Families

im not to surprised they arnt getting the whole league back, its hard to keep a group of actors togther when they might only appear in one or two episodes a season.

He's just this tiny little guy. He folds into the back ground.

Then we find out it was he who raped Veronica Mars a year before the series started.

Later while rewatching season one and two I'm amazed to see how much background this kid is in. Practically every episode and I do not take my eyes off him for a second.

Don't forget Linoel-as-Clark where he tried to mack on his mom!

Yeah that was a weird, gross, interesting episode.

But we think about it every episode? Chris Reeves made out with her when he was Clark right? They should have had the body switch between Lana and Martha, and then had everyone kissing who they love and appreciate on the inside regardless of the consequences... Not that that wouldn't be much less creepy... But Then they could have said things like "If you loved me, you'd make out with your mother!" or "Jonathan, I've seen you looking at Lana and dribbling, and then there's all the times you say her name while we're making love... Damn it Jonathan I WANT A BABY!"

They played 2 (first run) seaons of smallville back to back here during the school holidays in the beginning of the afternoon. I missed a couple.
