First Look at Trek XI in EW

New higher resolution version

newinsignias2.jpg

1920x1200 version at www.ncc1701shipyard.com

You would get higher resolution after I already worked on the one I downloaded earlier.

I took away the color field on the Insignia image on the right side and made it all one color so they blended better in the background.

See?

I know over time someone will make it blend better. I hope you didn't mind that I did that.

J.

No worries. I thought about doing what you did but I wanted to keep all the colors in.

What appeared to be a ridge on the side of Nero's face looks, in the high-resolution photos, like extra-long, pointy, wispy eyebrows.

Also, all four of them have Starfleet deltas in their eyes disguised as flecks of light.

Re: First Look at Trek IX in EW

Dude. Mark my words...

Nero is KLINGON... not Romulan.

look at the full image.
they are tattoo's and not ridges.

I know that there is a tattoo on his forehead dude. That's a no brainer.

You have to look at this image from a photographer/artist's mindset. I am both so I picked up on it right away.

Look at the high points on his left forehead. High-points are where light shines on it before a surface dips back into shadow. That is a definitive ridge and the Rembrandt lighting setup they used plainly exposes it. I have traced an outline around the ridged area to demonstrate it as well as included a picture of Eric Bana sans makeup that shows that his head doesn't naturally have this type of ridge. Also if you look at his tattoo in the full image below his bottom lip, you can see that what might appear to be wings are actually just the natural way his goatee grows around the small tribal like tattoo under his lip.

Perhaps, if Nero IS from the Future, He's Half Romulan and Half Klingon??
(Or some percentage mixture there of.)

Or maybe JJ decided to use the TNG Romulan Foreheads with a bit of a twist?
(Which appears to be the most likely solution to me.)

Maybe Nero got his head caught in that same "Rice Picker" that Spock did in TCOTEOF?
>giggle<

And that lower lip marking/tattoo looks an awful lot like a 22nd Century Bird-Of-Prey image to me!
(whether on purpose or not.)

Perhaps it IS a subtle indicator of Nero's single-minded focus on Kirk's era?
Thus another early hint of the time-travel aspect of the movie?

What do you people want out of Pine, a Nancy-boy? This is Kirk after he's just left the Farragut, all cocky and full of Piss and Vinegar! He's gotten that promotion to Starship Captain.
I'm pretty sure this is before the Farragut. I don't think he'll be Captain of anything in this one, since he's just out of the Academy. If he ends up commanding the Enterprise for a short time, it'll be by necessity, probably because of Pike and the normal command staff being injured or absent.

really it may be different time periods ..
if anything some of the indications are just post farragutt and possibly when kirk
first commands enterprise.

The chicks are back, the chicks are back. I'm glad they gave us good looking heros again instead of challenging our tolerance with fat or ugly or mutated looking characters.

What is it with Hollywood's obsession of youth? Why the hell can't a story have people of the appropriate age group?

As someone who is in his early 30's, I like the idea that my age qualifies as "youth" and not "middle aged". Yay for longer lifespans! :p

Come on Hollywood. Get some balls and stop looking at the dollar.

Because Hollywood is a non-profit organization...right?

couple of things - Bana has extended eye brows that are more like what we's seen on Klingons than Romulans... but... it looks like the top of his ear has been mutilated? like the point has been badly cut off?

There are much larger images up over at the official site now. In close-up Bana's markings look less like tattoos and more like applied war paint.

Yes. Even on his chin, with a line up to his lower lip. A dog (Romulan version) must've chewed on his ear. Or rough sex?

He needs a shave, too. So does Kirk. Apparently the stubble look came back in the future. [Edited to add: Spock's chinny, chin, chin is a but rough, too.]

^ No less so than mini-skirts, go go boots and Samsonite luggage. ;)

Maybe, in order to cleanse the palette (so to speak), you should pick up that movie from a couple years back that has Anne Hathaway totally naked in it, but I'm having a brain fart as to what the title is.

I saw a bit of those tits on IFC.

Indie films make me ill, though, with the bad acting. Plus, the aura of self-importance, the "THIS IS IMPORTANT!" vibe they give off reminds me of a teenaged girl's notebook.

Tell me - what IS the appropriate age group for a group of cadets about to graduate from Starfleet Academy? :vulcan:

and you know for sure this is the major time period..
it easily could be when kirk was an instructor.
I'll put my question in another way: How do YOU know that the characters are not of the appropriate age group, given that you seem to think that the exact time period(s) of the story are up in the air?

I don't want to be a pain, but can anyone make me an avatar out of Pine's face there. Just a regular square one, and for right now, I'll forgo the sombrero.
