First Look at Trek XI in EW

I don't want to be a pain, but can anyone make me an avatar out of Pine's face there. Just a regular square one, and for right now, I'll forgo the sombrero.

Re: First Look at Trek IX in EW

Perhaps, if Nero IS from the Future, He's Half Romulan and Half Klingon??
(Or some percentage mixture there of.)
Wow... you may have something here. What if Nero is half Romulan and half Klingon?

And he decided to embrace his Klingon side, mutilating the tips of pointed ears...

I mean, just the look at the picture.

maybe, if Nero's from the 24C, post NEM as it's claimed, he's a Dominion War vet and lost his ear-tip to a Jem'hadar's Kar'takin...

I wouldn't go as far as to venture the Half Klingon/Half Romulan bit (it wouldn't be that surprising...we've seen it before). But that promo image alone plays Nero up to be friggin' psychotic enough to self-mutilate his ears in a ritual-scarring type of way (i.e., "Romulus isn't war-like enough for me, I'm Nero! Look what I did to my ears!").

Maybe that puts too much of a comic book spin on it, but then again, so does that warpaint.

[Looks nice! :) Since the image on which you've based this is one of several being discussed in another thread, I'll just move this over there. - M' ]

Yeah, at this point it's really anybody's guess.

I always had a positive feeling about Quinto as the new Spock, and this new image of him just confirms it for me.

But this the first time I've seen Pine "in character," so to speak, as Kirk, and I like what I see. He's very ballsy looking here, and it works very well.

Saldana looks great, too. Hope Uhura gets more to do in the new flick than her usual secretary/human answering machine routine.

And Bana looks great! Very menacing in a "do not f*ck with me" sort of way.

Can't wait to see the movie now.

Sweetness. Pure, unadulterated sweetness. :techman:

I'm loving the new pics. Can't May come faster???

Re: Spocks Melding

Sorry, got here late..
Don't get me wrong, Zoe is hot, but shouldn't McCoy be in there?

Re: Spocks Melding

Hasn't it been fairly specifically stated that the enemy is Romulan before? Those are great pictures, and everyone looks like they fit their roles.

No.

It's unlikely that there are going to be any explanations for Nero's appearence that require "in-universe" references (half-Rom/half-Klingon for instance) in order to make sense. That would defeat what Abrams is trying to do with the film.

This is not sixties, they have quotas to fill these days. Uhura is both a woman AND a minority, which makes her more eligible than McCoy when it comes to poster presentation. :D

Honestly though, I'm more interested to see Scotty than McCoy. Can't wait to see this man Pegg trying to fill Doohan's shoes.

I don't know about "Romulan-esque." They look like two crossed battleth-like swords to me.

Really? When I first saw it I thought it looked reminiscent to the Romulan Star Empire logo.

Whose to say that in the later 24th century, with the Klingons weak and after the events of Nemesis, the RSE didn't betray the peace and conquer the Klingons. On the other hand, maybe the Klingons (as they had in All Good Things) didn't take advantage of the RSE's weakness and conquer it. So, it could be two crossed battleths for all we know at this point, a mark of the times, like the warbird on the ships in TOS, on Nero, a mark of hatred of the Klingons. If the RSE had been conquered, that might give Nero a motive for going back to change history in the RSE's favor. He might blame Spock for the empire going down the toilet, at least from his perspective.

That said, Quinto as Spock is just unnaturally uncanny. He really does look like Nimoy. It's just, just weird.

And I bet Nichelle is really liking Saldana's look herself. She's justifiably proud of her work on Trek, and I think she'll like what they've done with Saldana to make her younger self. I too hope she has a larger role than just hailing frequencies. I'd like to see some of that Trek III "Okay, Mr. Adventure, how's this for reality!" or the Uhura who pulled a knife on Sulu in the MU Uhura in this one. Since Uhura never got to come back in TNG, DS9, or VOY, I'd like them to balance that out with a wider role here.
