My favorite episode of "The West Wing" is In Excelsis Deo. The funeral scene of the homeless veteran was a tear jerker.

The Sorkin years were definitely much better than the post-Sorkin years, though things did improve considerably during the last couple seasons. The most telling example of the drop in the quality, though, could be seen in the final episode. They made a huge factual error which anybody could have caught had they actually read the Constitution (hint: it concerns when presidents are inaugurated).
"The West Wing" is in my top three favorite TV shows. I was very sad when John Spencer died but I was glad to see that they kept his name in the credits until the very end. My other favorite WW episode is "Mr. Willis of Ohio" from the first season. I head a rumor that a West Wing miniseries may be made about President Santos and former President Bartlett.
Sorkin made plenty of factual errors, so that's hardly indicative of anything. Going back to the first episode, where Toby bashs the Straw Christians who get the 10 Commandments wrong, he himself is also wrong. Or when they say Vermont borders Ontario. The most telling example of the drop in the quality, though, could be seen in the final episode. Please God let that be true.
